Description In 1898, Percival Locomotive Builders & Co. (PLB & Co.) designed a new 0-4-0ST design for its small but reliable range of tank engines. One of these, who would later become the famous NWR #606 'Percy' was built in 1900 for Rallison Weaponry Limited, becoming the companies #1. He worked there diligently for a decade, before Hudswell Clarke T1x 'Thompson' arrived in 1910 for the heavier workload. Both engines got along well and were sad when RWL #2 'Thompson' was sold to the NWR in 1915. RWL #1 continued to work until 1921, when the company closed and #2 was sold to the GWR to work around Swansea Harbor. When bought by the GWR, he was given several modifications. These included a new whistle, new tank cap type and location, renumbered to #702, and a bell to be able to work on at Swansea Harbor. Although he did his fair share of the work at the harbor, it wasn't rare for him to visit other parts of the railway for shunting duties.

He worked for the GWR until 1934, when he was purchased by the NWR to shunt the yard at Knaphord Station. Due to him only being a shunter like before, the only thing that changed was his livery, his number, becoming the railways #606, and a new nameplate sporting his name 'Percy', however he was noted down in the railways records as NWR #606 'Percival', he preferred to be known as Percy. He worked as Knaphord Station pilot until the late 1950's, when the workload became too much for him to handle. STH purchased another GWR owned tank engine, GWR class 2021 (Previously GWR 1901 class) #2020 'Montague', to take over piloting duties. At first #606 was nervous about his future, STH reallocated him to help Thomas and Toby build the new Harbor at Elsbridge. Once construction was complete, #606 was made a permeant member of the Ffarqhuar Branch fleet. He was taken to Crovans Gate to be fitted with a fully enclosed cab and a bigger bunker to be able to properly run on the branch.

When he joined the Ffarqhuar Branch in 1957, he was only allocated to goods work until 1959, when he was trailed with the Elsbridge - Ffarqhuar section of the Post Train. He proved to be a good fit and has been the main engine rostered onto the train ever since. It was in 1965 when Percy's mail run was rearranged to start from Knaphord, stopping at Tidmouth and then head down the Elsbridge to Ffarqhaur route. Even after Mavis arrived in 1960, Percy was called up to Anopha to collect stone trains when Mavis was busy. To cope with this, STH had it so that Percy was constructed a set of cow catchers and side plates that could be quickly added on short notice. These were used until 1992, when the law against engines like Thomas running on the tramway without plating was revoked. The sideplates were simply taken to the Killdane Ironworks for disposal. Percy, and later NWR #607 'Thirteen' worked the main goods trains along the branch until 1997. Around that time, Anopha Quarry discovered coal deposits nearby in 1994 and formed the Anopha Coal Company, whos mine was completed in 1997. It was found that Percy and Thirteen weren't able to keep up with the heavy workload. With that noted, the ACC managed to purchase Beyer Peacock 0-4-0 0-4-0 Garret #6842/ACC #1 'Dugdale' from The Vicarstown Railway Museum to handle the companies' shipments to both Ffarqhuar and the junction.
