Description
Mawsonia is an extinct genus of prehistoric coelacanth fish, and the largest of this group, ranging from an estimated 11 to 20 feet long. It is believed to have lived during the Cretaceous period about 99 to 112 million years ago. Fossils have been found in Brazil, Algeria, Tunisia, and Cameroon. Mawsonia was first described by British paleontologist Arthur Smith Woodward in 1907.
