As you placed this into the NoMercy folder that means you want a brutally honest Critique from #thephotographyunion
As with every work I look at, there are things I like, and, of course, there are things I don't like. I'll start with what I don't like:
1. the crop, or more precisely, the extra "frame". The photo is supposed to be 400x600 px as it is (the part that's the actual photo), and then you added the black background/frame. This turned it into a 400x717. I kinda understand why you tried to do it, as adding something like that can dramatically change perspective. However, you chose to do it by an arbitrary number and I don't think it worked. There are some well-established ratios which people figured out, throughout the ages are pleasing to the eye and all I'm saying is that I think using something like that MIGHT have worked better. However, as I'm no fan of frames, personally I think you shouldn't have used anything, or at least did it along the longer side as we're accustomed to see with TV's nowdays.
2. the fact that the bottom of the photo isn't dark enough that it looks like it's fading out of the complete darkness of the frame edge, while it's not light enough to be completely separated, especially since you can make out almost no details.
What I do like is the framing. I think bringing the rock dead center was the way to go, even though most landscape photographers blindly follow the rule of thirds and all that. Also I like the rock as a subject, even though I think maybe it would be a bit cooler if you came in a tad closer to it...Then the thin line of vegetation that basically also follows the horizon would be more noticeable!
Hope this feedback helps.
