Absolutely agree. Very weird. I suppose we must blame it on stupidity, sadly.

Had Theon abandoned Winterfell when he had the chance, use some common sense instead on letting his pride drive him to seek (which rhymes with reek) aceptance from a group of assholes, nothing would've happened to Winterfell...or at least the consequences would've been smaller. He fricking struggles to acknowledge that by the end of ACOK and almost comes to sense until Ramsy comes back with a the Dreadfort men.

very weird indeed. I'll show this thing to everyone next time I hear some more "Theon is an asshole, he burned down Winterfell". Hence, thank you for making this XD

yes, so true! thank you for doing this! do people really think theon is capable of that kind of evil? something like completely burning down winterfell just doesn't fit his character...

Yeah exactly, it makes no sense even! Theon wants Winterfell for himself and everyone there to look up to him, he doesn't want to destroy or hurt the people there lol

Aww man, thank you so much! I'm glad you think so!I do try to make it show that I love Theon, even in my pictures with Theon and Ramsay.

But who let Ramsay out of the dungeon and turned on Robb in the first place?Β

Who didn't listen to his mum and sent Theon as envoy in the first place though~?
Admittedly, freeing and trusting Ramsay was about the most stupid thing Theon actually did though...

It was still Theon's choice to betray Robb though.

Not much choice to be honest, if the other is 'betraying your family'.
Not to mention that this isn't what my pic is about anyway. It's about people blaming Theon for all kinds of bullshit, even things he had zero influence over. Like Ramsay burning down Winterfell and killing everyone there. lol

I'd argue the starks were more family to Theon than the Greyjoys were and he swore fealty to Robb, which to me means even more. I'm mean, after all, you can't choose your family.
I get that's not what your pictures about though.Β

I don't really think so. The Starks were no family to Theon. They weren't even nice to him. Abusive at worst and cold at best. Except for Robb, that is. But Robb's like a 14 year old kid, and brotherly feelings for one person between people who hate you and will kill you immediately if your other family - to which you have no contact at all anymore - steps out of line, is not a great situation to grow up in. In fact, the Starks basically stole any chance of Theon having a family (not that I blame them. It's war and they didn't treat Theon badly for a prisoner. It's just nothing close to a family situation, while at Pyke Theon had at least his mother and his sister who loved him...or would have had). Lets also not forget that "family" and "family ties" mean a lot in Westeros. Even if they're a bunch of assholes to you, you don't just abandon family for your best friend (not that Theon could've gone back to Robb anyway).Β
Theon's story arcis Β essentially about how that he is completely lost and has no place to belong to (can never be a Stark, his family doesn't care about him anymore because he lived with the Starks). He's desperate for a sense of belonging (which is also one of the reasons why he tries to take Winterfell by force to begin with). It's also why he latches himself that much to the Reek persona ("Reek belongs to Ramsay and Ramsay belongs to Reek"). It's all rather tragic.
(By the way, he actually never swore fealty to Robb in the books. He did in the show though - and Theon genuinely cares for/liked Robb either way, so it's still a very personal kind of betrayal.)

I'm going by the show, I haven't read the books. In the show the Starks treat Theon pretty well, but his dad tells him that he isn't his son.

....hey wait, if you haven't read the books, how come you you know about the freeing Ramsay from the dungeon thing? That wasn't in the show (sadly)! o.o

Thrumugnyr In reply to PulpAction-Gal [2014-06-24 16:43:15 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, by the show, Theon's situation is far less clear and the Starks seem a lot more like a family to him. Only when you watch the "Greyjoy Rebellion" special on the DVD/Blu Ray extras, Theon's situation as a hostage, who is to be beheaded in case should his father rebel again, becomes more clear.
I just recommend the books to be honest. The show does a poor job with a bunch of characters and their backstory. Not to mention they also added that horrible "my real father lost his head at Kings Landing" line so that show watchers would like Theon a bit more again, when in the books, Theon was more afraid of Ned than anything really...ugh. lol
