It is possible to change it, but it is hard to do. I saw a few sites that already made it more safe for users to have their artworks displayed. But most of the time you can even download the image file from the HTML code. So the best thing we can do is to put that ugly watermarks on the artworks.

To be honest - if you can display it on the screen of your computer, then you can download and save it, there is no technical possibility to prevent it (only make it require more work at best). The other way is only to look for unauthorised usage of art on the internet and sue anyone doing it, but it's long and difficult proccess.
