Description I decided to start using lines again...I'm not used to it so I ended up just painting everything on the same layer, as usual. But I'm starting to pull the stick out of my butt when it comes to line thickness, so I think this is an improvement on my style, overall...actually I was looking at $y2jenn 's stuff and got inspired to make some big bold moves

Her name is Amie, one of my characters for the Thorns RPG. Sorry about the watermark.

oh - and a note for those interested...I've been doing a series of these for my game. If you like creative writing and roleplay and want to be in the beta, please let me know, I'd like to draw you guyses' characters. (You guyses'? Is that correct? Ya'll's?)

I love the expression...
But the real reason for this comment is to tell you that it is in fact not guyses', it's just guys'. Sorry, I'm some kind of apostrophe nazi.

I am aware of the correct spelling, but I'm the type of person who types "gonna" and "gotcha" for fun, so..

i'm so in love with complementary colours. i need to learn to use different schemes better. i just don't colour enough to hammer out all the dents.

Fantastic! I love the bold colors and the lines and the overall chunkiness of it! Also the dithering or whatever texture you used looks really cool.

I really REALLY like this one! The thick lines and bright cartoony colors with that shading just perfects it! THAT is the style I'm trying to head towords though the lines wouldn't be black.

Looks awsome, wouldn't have guessed it was all in one layer! I usualy work with hundreds of layers >_<

I wasn't sure about the black :/ In my other stuff, I avoid black like the plague...but I see so much cool art that uses it, so I gave it a try.

I used to work with a ton of layers but it made everything so confusing and slowed my machine down...I definitely recommend cutting back, it did my art a world of good!

(By the way your floating head avatar looks eerily like me)

Yeah, I've seen alot of art that uses black lines, especially thick ones, but I can't seem to make it work.
And yeah, I am a layer "wh*re" and I should cut back, guess I'm just so used to being able to go back or delete parts of the piece I don't like. I even sometimes catch myself ,when drawing on paper, looking for the back button I'm defenitly going to try cutting back.....I'm going to try *takes a deep breath*

*grins* The evil float head hauuunts you...! *evil grin*

Haha, I do the same thing when using paper. Digital art has made me so careless. It's also made me try new things that I'd never try on paper for fear of someone seeing my failures, though, so overall it's helped me..

I typically have two layers at most.. one for a sketch, one for the background (though I sometimes assemble the background first and then add a character or something). Lately I've just been painting on top of a sketch. It's insane how much time it saves not to have to switch between layers

hahaha, I usualy make a seperate layer for when I'm putting the lineart together, one for the face, one for hair ....then merge that when I'm satisfied, then I make groups for the coloring, one for the dress, one for hair, one for face, one for body ....and then I have a layer for foundation, shading etc....>_<
When I turned digital with most of my art I've grown so used to having the back button that I too have gotten careless. Which I hope to change with my 365 challenge (www.cilitra.blogspot.com)

I've been using the pen tool and mouse with almost ALL my art so far so I haven't really thought about the time it takes to switch between layers since it takes ages no matter what I do! But I've dragged out my tablet from its hiding place, dusted the dust offa it, and now I hope to improve my art to the next stage by doing the sketch, lines and coloring completely with a tablet....which is taking a bit of time since its hard to adjust to using a tablet compared to sketching with a pencil and using a mouse to color :S

But tonight I'm going to try using as few layers as possible XD
...wish me luck!

Good luck! It's good you're doing that 365 thing...I'm way too lazy I don't even draw every day like I should. Your art's really cute, by the way. And by really cute I mean, like, I just got diabetes from looking at your art.

hehe, I'm lucky cause I can use a bit of my time at work to draw(...can meaning sneaking) It's easy cause they are just quick sketches that only take a few minutes but make me feel proud throughout the day because I know I'm finaly putting alot of effort into trying to improve by MAKING time to draw X3
And thanks for the comment, I try my best to rot peoples teeth away! *evil grin*
