Description This was my first experiment with a new program(actually a third party plug in for Adobe Illustrator) called Tessella. Formerly, I used Tesselmania, but that was an 8-bit program with very basic drawing functions, and no good way to export your work. It also doesn't work on Windows 7.

Nice result. Good to see tessellations with an actual complex outline. Like the eyes in contrasting colours

The author of Terssellmania is a friend of mine (via Internet) named Kevin Lee. He's working on a new program to repplace the aging Tessellmania.

Tessellmania still works under Win7, he says, but as always it's a struggle tyo get the O/S to bend its backward compatibility that far backward.

The new program should be out in the Spring, I think. Its first version, however, is being writtren for the Mac, not Windows.

Since you're using an add-on for Illustrator, you may also enjoy using the SymmetryWorks [link] add-on/plugin for Illustrator, which like Tessella also claims to be good 4 making tessellations.

'Cept for Kevin Lee's as-yet unreleased program, You can read reviews of all these (years old) tessellation programs and add-ons on my website, tessellations.org

I've been in contact with another one of Kevin Lee's friends, Jill Britton. She actually gave me a copy of Tesselmania Deluxe, which worked until I upgraded to Windows 7. Her and I went back and forth trying to make it work in the new OS. I had the virtual XP environment and the program set to open with 256 colors- didn't work. It wasn't until I found Tessella that I was able to start playing around with tessellations again. I look forward to buying Kevin's new program which, I think, is called "Tesselmanic."

Tessellations.org? That's where I found the link to Tessella!

I'll check out SymmetryWorks! Thanks!

Rather than looking for WinXP compatibility, try seeing if you can go back as far as Win95 compatibility such as 256 colors only.

If your Win7 is 64bit rather than 32 bit, though, I'd give up on finding any retro compatibility.

Yeah, my PC is 64bit. Thanks, though!

I'm happy with Tessella. I can do a lot more with it.

Ah, no wonder it didn't work then.
Lucky thing, that the problem forced you to find an alternative that not only works in win7 64bit, but is in fact better.
