Description tigaer-design.com proudly presents: terragen - gleisshammer

D³SCR!PTION

my last terragen project with a cold snowy environment lies a while back and was called polarized :: [link] . what we see here came into my mind about 6 months ago. i was riding a train from the outskirts home to nuremberg. the train always stops on a station named 'gleisshammer'. i realized that this name has so much power somehow. (everyone that lives here in nuremberg will start laughing immediately) i thought that this name would be perfect for a mountain or so. not the ordinary mountain... what i had in mind was a mighty, massive, large and impressive kind of mountain. over the next few weeks i tried various things to realize my idea - i haven't got the idea realized the way i wanted... until now. imagine fresh cold air striving through your hair, into your lungs with every breathe you take. a look in every direction reveals mile high mountains. coulds caught beween them, throwing shadows on the walls of rocks and stones. even higher clouds laying large curtains of diffuse light over massive areas of snow, ice and stone.of course this pic is not pretending to be as realistic as possible. see it as a fantasy landscape - on a distant planet 4 times as big as mother earth. life evolves in small steps and will soon be able to climb these mountains to see farther than anyone before on this planet.

TECHN!CAL DETA!LS

the challenge in this one was to create clouds from above. to get a good working result with that took almost 1/2 of the work. texturing went as usual and was pretty easy with this one. once again i used a lot of photography to realize texturing and clouds. the terragen i used was rendered 3 times with different atmospheres. one without haze/fog... completely clear. one with dense atmosphere, mist hanging between the mountains. another one where i tried to create some sunbeams. with all these different renders combined in photoshop i was able to start the post process... texturing etc. to see an animation about the 'evolution' this pic was going through... check here: [link]

STATS

nice at first glance but i can't help but feel a little off at those clouds. Still there's only so much you can do with Terragen 1 so good effort

Einfach alles super stimmig...

very nice....for a little critique....usually clouds are more whispy between mountains, these look good, but i got alittle confused in some parts....it seemed like you were blending pictures together instead of that being clouds of the mountain. Im not saying those are bad...it looks awsome and gives it an interesting look. Just....less fluff, more misty foggy looking cloud.

im not sure if i explained that good enough....or if your even looking at replies anymore

Do you use the paid version of Terragen? Because Im using the trial to see if I like it. Every picture made with terragen I see is awesome, but I cannot create something without it looking extreemly blocky.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tigaer In reply to Aexo [2004-11-11 17:04:57 +0000 UTC]

yes i used the full version. every terragen artist i know renders pics in full quality. that means with every setting on the highest possible point and almost all the time with very high resolutions... like 3200x2400 or twice as large as that. in the end it gets downsized to avoid pixelation in water and triangulation in the terrain. since you have no registered TG version in will be hard to create something really good. but it's possible... - check ~ terragen for tutorials if you like.

very nice job on this, however, I have a suggestion

I have some experience with rendering high aerial view of terrains (--> [link] ), and I've found that to get an effective curvature effect you need to make the terrain bloody huge (I notice that your terrain dissapears in short order, you did a good job of masking it though ). It takes forever to render, but it's completely worth it if you can see the horizon, have a look at mine. Sooo, my suggestion would be to make the terrain larger for the horizon effect

cheers, enjoy the
