Description Torn Up: Chapter 2

When I awoke, I was greeted by dazzling light that was coming from the open windows beside the master bed. The silken curtains were pulled back, and grand windows were revealed. I fluttered my eyes since the light was so bright, and I was really unprepared for it. Then, I suddenly remembered that I was now in spirit form, and looked down. Last night, I didn’t know what type of dog I was, and now I was surprised by my choice.
My favourite type of smaller dogs is the Mittel German Spitz; it’s intelligent face, long, silky fur, and upturned tail, it was defiantly one of my top favourites. But, this one was a Papillion; one that I wasn’t very found of, was the form that I had turned into. Odd, why did I change into this dog? Wow, that must mean he has access to my forms already.   I looked down just as the baby was waking up. He stretched first, then opened and closed his eyes numerous times. But, when he first noticed me, instead of the look of fear that I was expecting, he reached out and stroked my soft fur. A giggle came from his mouth, and he grabbed my closer to him.
I looked at him with my gleaming, honey-coloured eyes, and kissed his forehead. He laughed whole-heartedly, and hugged me tightly.
“Doggie! So cute!” When he touched my muzzle, I smiled, and licked the palm of his hand. Goodness, he is so sweet! How long has it been since I have tasted a child’s skin?
“Hello, angel. What is your name?” My voice was as smooth as ever, and he responded to the kindness in my voice.
“Miles!”
“Miles? That’s an adorable name, sweetheart. I will be your guardian spirit, and I will take care of you always.”
“Weally? That’s gweat!” He buried his face into my fur. And I sighed in enjoyment.
      ***
Every year that I spent with this adorable boy has been one of the best in my 564 years of living. He looked up to me, and I was sure he had a love like that of an older sister. I, too, had a great love for him.
Now, six years later, when my sweet Miles Edgeworth is seven years old, is when his life began to take shape, friendships begin to form, and he has to go through the hardest thing in his life.
***

“Come on Ari! We need to get to school! Nick and Larry are waiting for me! Vite! VITE!!!” Miles called after me, as I got on my shoes. Hey, even though I was in spirit form, I still had to get dressed. Can’t go around being naked; shinigami may see me!
“Coming right now, Miles! Just wait up a second!”
“Alright…But, Nick! I need to see Phoenix!”
“What’s the big rush, sport?”
“We need to talk…about stuff.”
“Aww! That’s so cute! You two are just adorable!”
“We are NOT cute, Ari! And hurry up! We need to go! Allons-y!”
I giggled as he denied that; he didn’t know how wrong he was. He and his best friend, Phoenix Wright, had to be the cutest kids on the face of the planet. They were with each other 24/7, never leaving each other’s sides.
Phoenix was the type of child that you either loved to death, or couldn’t stand. He was always eager to try new things, loved law, and a wonderful friend; but, I guess some people didn’t like that kind of person. But, to me and Miles, he was amazing. Phoenix, otherwise known as Nick, had wonderful, peach skin, and glistening blue eyes.  Also, he had AWESOME hair: it was always spiked back, which looked really good in him, especially with his dark-black hair.
I trusted Miles with our secret, but, oddly enough, I felt as if he told Nick, I would be completely fine with it.
He yelled for me to come again, and I ran over to his side. We walked to school together, as we do every morning, and he told me about his dreams during the night. Most of them had me in them, and it brought joy to my heart when I heard him talk about me like that. But, this dream was a bit odd.
“Ari, I had a really bad dream last night.” When I didn’t say anything, he continued. “You, Phoenix, Daddy and I were all together on a train. But, suddenly a……earthquake hit.” I already knew that that was a bad thing. Nothing scared Miles more than earthquakes. “The train was shaking hard, and Phoenix and Daddy…..they both fell off the train, and into the waterfall below. You and I were still in the train, but then someone came and….they hurt you. Really bad.”
I couldn’t say anything to him after that. All I did was look ahead of us. The school was incredibly close, but still, time could make this walk go on forever. He walked in front of me and stopped me from going farther.
“Ari, you know a lot. What did my dream mean? Is…someone going to die?” He sounded so forlorn, so sad.
“I do know a lot of things, but dreams have always been something that I could never understand. But, don’t worry about it, Miles. You, Nick, and your father will be alright.”
“Will you be ok?”
I just looked at him, his angelic face, deep-gray eyes, and his black hair that was turning a bit brown. “I don’t know, honey. My life has been a rollercoaster, but I am pretty sure it has died down a bit.” I gave him a warm, pleasant smile; his face lit up and he began another conversation.
“I can’t wait until I am old enough to start studying law! I am going to be the best defense attorney that you have ever seen!”
“You can start learning now, silly-goose! There is no age to obtain new knowledge. I was a defense attorney once. Maybe I could teach you, along with your father.”
“Really? That would be completely awesome! Thank you so much Ari!” He stopped walking for a moment to hug me. I know to the other people on the street, he was hugging the air, but I didn’t care. He was my whole life, and I didn’t care who was looking.
The school came up rather quick, much quicker than I thought that we were going to get there. Miles ran up to the door, held it open for me, and we both walked in together. His classroom was the third one on the right, and his teacher was…nice, I guess.
The first one to greet us was the bundle of energy that was Phoenix Wright. He ran up and hugged Miles, and Miles hugged him back.
“Miles! You took so long getting here! Why?”
“Oh!” Miles couldn’t say anything about me to Nick, even though I knew Nick would believe him. I hope he doesn’t say anything stupid. Luckily for me, Miles wasn’t stupid at all. “My mom forgot to turn off the alarm in the house, so I had to wait until she woke up.”
Nick made a happy face, and then bowed. “I understand completely! So, what’s up?”
“Nothing much! Guess what? My dad is going to help me become a defense attorney! Isn’t that awesome?”
“Awesome? That’s better than awesome! Can he teach me too?”
“Sure, why not? Just come over today after school!”
“That’s great Miles! I can’t wait!”
The school bell then rang, and they went to their seats. Thankfully, Miles and Phoenix sat right next to each other, and were always talking about something. The teacher would yell at them to stop and focus, which was really hard for them. They always had each other on their minds, including some thoughts about law. Phoenix was adorable, and when he was with Miles, my heart was completed.
Without any warning, I felt a surge of passion shake my body. I looked at Miles, and he was looking at Phoenix with a certain look in his eye. My eyes began to form tears of joy, and my heart felt light. That pang of passion…it must have come from Miles. Our spirit link just reacted on a high level; what I just felt……was that a surge of love?
***
The three of us walked home together, and Miles wouldn’t stop talking! He and Phoenix were as close as friends could get, yet I knew there was something more to their relationship…at least on one side. Miles cared for Phoenix; I knew that much; but how much he cared for him was something completely different.
Occasionally, Miles would direct a question towards me, but never mentioned my name. I was happy for this, but Phoenix would always look at him like something was wrong with him. I would answer in a way that required no response from Miles, just in case.
The walk home was short, but the rest of the afternoon was a long one. Phoenix ended up spending the night over, since he didn’t have caring parents, it was fine. Miles and Phoenix wore matching pajamas (since he needed to borrow some, and Miles just so happened to have an extra pair.) It was a simple, two-pieced outfit. The only thing that was odd about it was the color: it was a soft pink. Miles was the type of boy who really liked the color pink, red, and burgundy; a lot of his clothes were of those colors.
Phoenix was afraid of the dark, which came as a shock to me, but Miles didn’t object to having him sleep with him in his bed. They pulled up the covers, fluffed their pillows, and fell asleep. I was tired myself, and turned into the Papillion (which I learned was Miles’ favourite breed of dog) that both of us were familiar with. I curled up next to my sweet Miles, and began to dream.
***
I was surrounded by lush, green trees, and the waterfall behind me trickled water ever-so steadily. The wind blew pleasantly, making my wavy-curly hair sway in the wind. A forest was towards my left, and a large lake on my right. There was nothing in the sky, no clouds, or birds; nothing except the dim sun.
I heard rustling in the bushes in front of me, and I quickly turned my full attention to the area in front of me. A weight that shouldn’t be there was hanging limply by my side. My hand reached down, and I wrapped my fingers around a familiar sword. Shikio? What is Shikio doing here? Suddenly, I noticed that I wasn’t dressed in my ordinary clothes; the clothes that I was wearing were the outfit that I only wore when I was in my Shinigami form. My surprise was quickly overturned when I saw a figure come out of the forest on my left. Another figure came out of the bushes, one from the lake, and a final one came out of the waterfall behind me.
The first one in front of me was like a ghost; my dear, deceased lover, Ethan Pureheart, stood in front of me, dressed in the outfit I had made him. On my left, my past boyfriend, brother of Neferious, Damien came out of the woods. He had a devilish smile on his face; his black hair was gleaming in the scarce light. Out of the lake came my dear friend, Renji Abarai. Unusually enough, he wasn’t wet, despite the fact he had come out of the water. But, the oddest figure of all was the one that came out of the water behind me. It was one that I could only slightly recognize, but it was so far from what I knew he looked like.
It looked like Miles, but at the same time, it didn’t. He was so much more mature looking, so much…colder. Also, he had gray-brown hair, unlike the brownish black that the Miles I was living with had. His eyes were practically like slits, and he was wearing a strange outfit. It consisted of a fancy cravat, black collar, and a wonderful suit.
The four of them walked in front of me, and then each took out a weapon of their choice. Miles held a short, silver dagger with a leather hilt; Damien took out his prized, duel-sided sword, Deminion; Renji pulled out his soul-slaying sword, Zabimaru, and gave it a slash in the air; Finally, Ethan took out a simple, long knife. It was Damien who spoke first.
“Ari, my sweet, why did you leave me?”
I tried to respond, but he put his hands over my mouth, and held my trembling body close to him. Ethan walked up closer to me, then attempted to kiss me, only to be stifled by Renji’s sword.
“Why did you do this to me, Ari? Because of you, I am dead now. How could you?” The sound of Ethan’s voice brought chills to my heart, and caused my spine to shiver. It was so creamy…so beautiful.
“Hey, Ari, do you remember me? We…had some pretty awesome adventures together, eh? How come you left the Soul Society? And you didn’t say good-bye to me at all…” Renji’s handsome voice made me stiffen, and felt Ethan touch my legs; I tried to move away from the three men, but they held me close.
Finally, Miles walked up to me, and placed a simple kiss on my lips. I looked at him in question, but he spoke before I could say anything.
“My goodness, how you haven’t changed, huh, Ari? You have only become more beautiful, in my eyes.” His striking voice almost caused me to sway, and fall, but I redeemed my status soon after.
The men they walked back into a line in front of me. Their eyes looked at me, and they held their weapons by their sides.
“Ari….which one of us will you chose?” They all said in perfect unison.
The sky suddenly turned from the blue it was to a deep red, almost like the sky was painted in blood. The clouds were black, but I didn’t get the feeling they were going to rain any time soon.
Miles walked up to me, and he possessed me in a kiss so deep, I was left completely breathless. My heart began to beat quickly, and I gave myself to him. A crooked smile formed on his lips, and he pushed me to the ground. It took me a couple of moments that we were now completely alone, and the other men had left. His left hand crept down my back, and I let him. He looked at me with his intense gray eyes, and then planted another kiss on my lips.
But, he suddenly changed from being passionate to cruel, and he latched his teeth onto my neck; I couldn’t help but yelp out in great pain. I felt something trickle down my neck, and I knew it wasn’t saliva. It was blood; my silver blood. Miles immediately began to lick up the blood, but his tongue wasn’t soft at all; no, it was rough like that of a lion. I cried out as he licked my skin again, his tongue causing a layer of skin come off, allowing more blood to flow.
He seemed to be enjoying this, for he was grinning the whole time. Once his soft lips were completely covered in my silver, shining blood, he dipped his head for another kiss. I was still in immense pain from the injuries to my neck, but I couldn’t protest against him. Miles then began to push my legs together, and straighten his arms until I was completely helpless underneath him.
“You have made the most excellent choice, my dear.” He licked a sliver of blood that was proceeding down my neck. “You will be most pleased with me in time to come.” He came close to my ear, and whispered something in it.
“I love you.”
