Description I don't THINK I've mentioned this before but I wanted to incorporate Bob into my headcanons. The reason is because I used to have Zim and Skoodge argue/fight frequently over a mess of stuff, with the worst cases rising in volume and turning into full blown release of bottled-up emotions on Skoodge's part (as he hates conflict and will put his own emotions aside until he can't take it anymore.) Normally these arguments would bubble down after a few hours and they'd be fine again.
The thing is...my headcanon version of Skoodge is one where these sorts of arguments are almost out-of-character. Not only is he extremely passive  and hates conflict, but he's also extremely patient and...well he's patient to a FAULT. He's one of those obnoxiously nice guys that you can't seem to be able to annoy when it counts. Though he does bottle up a lot of things, he mostly expresses this in either passive-aggressively or he'll be extremely sarcastic (now that I think about it, he's pretty much sarcastic every other word anyways, but this time it's more exaggerated and blatant.)

So I wanted to do away with the verbal arguments between them, especially since I've done a lot of shifting around with my headcanon material (these guys are basically living a slice-of-life tv show in my head at this point) BUT I loved the idea and still wanted to mess around with it, therefore---BOB.

He isn't nearly as developed as my AU-ish type content for Zim and Skoodge, nor are his relationships. ...By this point I'm always sure I've explained this in some other post but there's no harm in repeating it I suppose. Bob's story is painfully similar to Skoodge's in that, ever since he was tied to the back of Zim's chair and always sent into the sun, Zim managed to reset the coordinates and went back to Earth with Bob ending up roughing it in Zim's base without his knowing. Skoodge makes his presence known to Zim much earlier than Bob does, but nonetheless a looong time after Zim had already hated skoodge, then learned to live with it, then got to know him a little better, then befriended and dated Skoodge (you will recall I am ZASR trash until the end of time), after all this, Bob finally emerges (or rather, gets caught ) and is found to be living with Skoodge. Skoodge was unaware that Bob was there, but Bob was aware of Skoodge and chose to live in Zim's ventilation system where he entertained himself by fighting rats out of his territory and scratching various rat bites.

After being found out, it is discovered that Bob looked up to Zim ever since that day during Hobo 13, and has since lived in the vents admiring him silently. When Zim finds him, he gets on his knees and essentially kisses the ground he walks on, begging the "Great Tall Zim" not to tell the authorities on him. The reason he specifically wanted to hide on Earth was because his life as a Food Service Drone was miserable and he wanted to live free....while hiding in vents. He also expresses a great desire to admire Zim, claiming if he would work for his stay in Zim's base and that it would be an honor doing work for him.

Initially Zim is suspicious and adverse to yet another random Irken in his base potentially interfering with his plans to take over Earth, but luckily Skoodge had softened him a little on the idea. By this point he is a bit more open to assistance and lowkey making some friends as long as they were Irken. Plus and probably most importantly, Bobby did an excellent job stroking his ego- calling him Great and Tall and offering to essentially be his willing slave- and of course Zim ate that up like candy. Bobby lived up to his admiration for a while, doing random chores and even doing random work (like kneeling down to be a foot rest while Zim enjoyed his favorite Earth TV shows.) After a while, however, Bobby began to observe Zim's incompetence in defeating Earth, and also more importantly- how often Zim slacked off (in his mind at least. Watching TV for example, or attending school when that time could be spent making destructive plans.) To boot, Zim IMMEDIATELY took advantage of Bob's vow to serve Zim, and began forcing him to do impossible, humiliating, dangerous, or often painful tasks. One example might be diving into a barrel of boiling hot chemicals to see what horrifying effects it may have as a potential weapon for humans...or maybe weeds in his lawn.) Bob still put up with this, albeit reluctantly. On top of this, Zim never thanked or acknowledged his work (of course) accept for quick waves of the hand that were obviously not meaningful (yes yes, good work, you have been an excellent slave yaddayadda-- NOW BACK TO WORK!") and would additionally make fun of Bobby for various reasons, most of which didn't make sense or pertained to his height.

Eventually Bobby had enough of this, and this realization comes all at once. After spending his entire life being belittled for his height and not being able to fight back, Bobby had always been submissive and as a result, was terrified to stand up to Zim, but here he finally realizes that he isn't on the Massive anymore. He was on Earth, which meant that his height no longer applied to his status, and he could finally let his true personality through. As it turns out, all those years of constantly submitting himself has lead to loads of overdue bitterness and resentment, which translates into an anger problem and a complete lack of interest in containing his feelings any longer, even if it just makes sense to tone it down a little. At this point, anything that would even suggest he takes orders from anybody will completely throw him over the edge and he does a 180 on Zim, yelling that he used to respect him but not anymore. This sparks a rivalry that merges right into my head canon world where arguments are plentiful and a very large battle of who has the strongest Napoleon Complex explodes between these two. As someone who often plays the peace-maker card, Skoodge tries his best to dispel arguments when they're within his limit, or at the worst of times, cowers behind the couch when full-on rage explosions occur.

At first these two seem to get into arguments constantly, with Bobby refusing to back off like he had all his life, and Zim being too proud to back off once Bob had started the argument, not to mention Zim's accidental tendency to say demeaning or self-righteous things that would set Bobby off to begin with. These fights don't take long to blossom into full-blown animosity from the two of them, with any time spent together often resulting in boyish fist fights that last about ten seconds each (they are both terrible fighters and kind of a bunch of wimps about it.) Though over time, the arguments transition to just verbal assaults that are almost- ALMOST-- room volume. This is because Zim eventually just tires of arguing (somewhat whipped like Gir has him sometimes) and Bobby eventually loses steam as well and realizes that all his attempts to show off his new-found freedom via yelling isn't getting him anywhere that normal communication would.

If we were to follow down the chain of character and relationship development, Zim is the one who starts acting like Bob and him are buddies, often to Bob's surprise and rejection. This would be by stating casually that they're friends to Dib which he would deny straight out, or by asking if he wanted to do something with him, also ending in Bob rejecting the idea and Zim wondering why. ( I should note, I can see Zim seeing the arguments as a sort of 'male bonding' type practice, where he acts a lot angrier than he is and then brushes off the arguments minutes later while Bobby holds onto it for ages.) Eventually Bobby gives in- something Skoodge is VERY relieved about- and all three of them start hanging out as a single pack of buddies. Bobby never reaches the level of friendship Zim and Skoodge have for each other, he actually acts more like a side character in my head. He is definitely starting to gain traction though, so I figured I should finally get to drawing this guy... cussing up a storm at Zim, the latter being done with this guy and putting up a hand to block the incoming wave of verbal abuse while Skoodge continues to be an adorable failure of a blood-thirsty Irken War-Soldier and stands there scandalized by loud noises and arguments and such.... I love him, he is my pride and joy

I didn't spend tooo much time on this. I think I might have actually spent the same amount of time typing this description novella. I did want to focus on having the height differences accurate. As you can see, Bobby is considerably shorter than Zim (quite a feat) and to think he's actually trying to make himself look taller by standing on his tippy toes here. ....Please ignore the fact that Zim and Skoodge ISN'T accurate in height I mean I tried, since Skoodge is a WEE bit taller than Zim, but his shape is so hard to make tall with his small fat head. Having Zim and Skoodge be the same height is really 'close enough' since they truly are almost the same height. I even have a mental joke going in my head where Skoodge is only a few centimeters taller than Zim, but since height is such an important factor in Irken society, even Zim acknowledges this as a considerable difference in height. This means that Skoodge has the opportunity to make short jokes to Zim He does so playfully, but he generally avoids them since he's so goshdawn sickeningly kind.

ANYWHO, enjoy this little doodle coupled with this ridiculously long explanation of said image

Oh wow you wanna hear it?? (tries to contain excitement) Okay well it's kinda long( and bad and has quite a lot of ZaDf), It all starts with Dib and Zim, Dib has managed to bring Professor Membrane's attention to the Irken Empire via disguising it as him being interested in Astronomy. Professor Membrane then to put it simply tries to plan galactic peace via taking over the Irken empire, Dib being over the moon with this, spills the stuff to Zim. Anyways with the backstory done,

"WHY. WONT. THIS. OPEN!?!??!!" Purple yelled, trying to open a pack of Irken food that appears to resemble Nachos.
"You're doing it wrong" Red said angrily "Give it here"
Red holds his two fingered hand out for the nachos
"No I've got this," Purple replied trying hard to open the tightly sealed packet, "Just gotta-"
He sighs and goes to hand Red the Irkchos.
"Uhh My Tallest?" A pilot injects
Purple turns and Red groans,
"What?" Purple asks
"that," He says pointing to a deep blue ship looming over the massive, "So do you want us to call them or-"
The Massive equivalent of the phone ringing sounds before the they can answer

(Okay this part isn't very important so I'll brief you on it, so basically Membrane offers a peaceful option the Tallest say no, Dib's also there, Gaz doesn't care, Membrane attacks and the tallest are evacuated to a special "safe" area)
"Well at least things couldn't get worse" Red sighs
"Hello my tallest" Zim says emerging from the shadows
"AAAAA, IT GOT WORSE!!" screams Purple (Sorry I just HAD to do that)
"yes, yes I know that the DIB-stink can be annoying" Says Zim, ignorant as ever
"But I assure you, he is no match for ZIM"
Zim marches over to the control panel and begins a sequence of pushing buttons and firing lasers which remarkably work.
"Are we gonna let him do that?" Purple asks,
"I mean we did send him on a fake mission for a reason"
Zim turns around and a siren goes off, "wait what-" Something bursts through the roof and knocks Zim out before he can finish.
Cut to the present. Irk has been taken over by Professor Membrane and Dib awaits being assigned an Irken. As it turns out that's is Zim, not the tallest think he's capable, The Tallest just want him to kill Dib, which in turn once Zim finds out is his motive for keeping Dib alive (until they become friends anyway).

I like the idea that Zim tried to commit suicide after finding out but was stopped, (I haven't really developed this part.. I'm starting to sound really cringy aren't I?)

So whatever happens that leads Zim to try and "fix" himself and by himself I mean his pak, Zim can't really edit the original coding and rather just adds over it meaning that he kinda drops in and out of being sane. Zim also builds in some new technology on his gloves which don't really effect their appearance except a small circle on his wrist which kinda acts like a mood ring to detect Zim's 'sane level'

I've come up with a few ideas for I guess episodes??? idk I'll just do the thing with ZaSr, since it's relatively new to this AU(-ish) there isn't much.

So Skoodge and Zim are on this mission, to steal some kind of information and they must infiltrate a masquerade like thing and manage to get into some room that leads to where the information is, but someone (namely one of the owners) sees them entering and starts opening the door. Zim to keep their cover, kisses Skoodge. The owner dismisses them as a love struck couple and leaves them be.

They come back acting a bit weird, Jazzy (one of my ocs, OH THE CRINGE) asks Skoodge what's up and this is where the au part comes in, because we get a flashback to when Skoodge was younger. He was being picked on by some bully for being small, which catches Zim's attention. Just as He is about punch Skoodge Zim extends his pak legs and pushes him out the window, he then asks if Skoodge if he is ok to which he nods. A teacher calls Zim's name angrily, and Zim grabs his hand saying "I know a secret hiding place!" not noticing Skoodge blushing.
(Most of this is underdeveloped but Zim was a lot more caring when he was younger and took the blame for Skoodge sometimes) Anyway as they get older Zim got a lot meaner and started to use Skoodge for his own gain. Skoodge stayed with him because he believed that the Zim that he met when they were younger was still in there somewhere. Also Zim kinda had feelings for Skoodge after the kiss but tried to dismiss and 'get rid' of them because he believed that Skoodge would never except.

wow thats a long comment..
I hope it wasn't too boring..

Oooh, that's actually pretty developed! I don't like reading a lot of fanfiction, so I haven't seen that around too often xD

So, that was good!! I agree with some parts, and disagree with others, which is a given, heh. I have a hard time believing Membrane could take on the entire Irken fleet head-on out of pure force of technology, since humans are so underdeveloped here. BUT I think taking down the Irkens would probably be fairly easy, with a lot of tact and some luck (without facing them head-on.) I've messed around with this idea a little, there's definitely a couple open spaces for that, such as their PAKS, and I imagine the Control Brains have control over ALL Irken Paks... but I also imagine it'd be incredibly difficult to do that, and I'm getting off topic xD

I actually like the idea of Zim trying to commit suicide after being stopped. I mean...in the FIRST EPISODE he just about did this HIMSELF, so there's no question on whether or not he would do it and how bad his anxiety can get. I'm not thinking of anxiety as in depression, but I think he clearly has a lot of fears that can get out of hand (the entire "Germs" episode) and I honestly think he would prefer that over a life time of being Dib's slave. I've also played with a separate AU of mine where I tried to figure out Zim and Skoodge's reactions to finding out the Empire was taken over and they were basically turned into a ragtag team of migrants, after being an integral part of one of the most devastating species in the galaxy just minutes earlier. I imagine this is a huge constant threat, since they have so many enemies that want to destroy them all together. I honestly think that would be a breaking point for Zim for multiple reasons (he's pretty much dedicated his life to the empire, and he's shown to have an emotional side.) I think Zim would feel defeated and mope in a silent-ish way, while Skoodge would have a LOT of explosive emotions at first but would gather himself and try to think of a solution. A.K.A, Zim would appear competent and calm next to skoodge who would flip at first, but as time passes, he would lose himself while Skoodge gains more energy from it.

But yeah- final point I want to make- Skoodge and Zim during the old days! My view of it was Zim showing he cares by getting angry, due to Skoodge getting bullied (I pictured it as irkens bullying him for his shape and height, and a lot of aliens outside of Irkens bullying him for being Irken.) And Skoodge is more open about his emotions, while Zim is very secretive about his but he has a soft side for people who show them (how he felt bad when Gir started crying) so I pictured him trying to help by telling Skoodge to "toughen up" and yelling back at people who bullied him. Skoodge started admiring Zim for his confidence and started putting him on a pedestal, seeing him as the ideal he should aim to be to get more confidence. It's a pretty detailed story but later on, Skoodge learns (and lives) all the things Zim ends up doing, and accepts them because he had already gotten to know Zim and he considered him his best friend (neither of them really had any friends, but they at least sat together during lunch and trained together.) I imagine Skoodge developing a small crush on him here, while Zim doesn't develop one for WAAAAY in the future when he's on Earth and he finds Skoodge in his basement (at which point Skoodge STILL has feelings but he always knew they wouldnt be requited, and he just cooly accepts it and sees Zim as a close friend.) I need to develop all these things further but yeah xD I ended up talking about my own stuff but real quickly- Later on while hiding in his basement, Skoodge still idolizes Zim as flawless and the image of confidence and no-emotional-reaction to anything he wishes he could be, but as he gets to know him, he realizes he mostly steels himself and hides his emotions inward (partially due to his defectiveness, and also due to his culture which emphasizes no emotions.) After this, Zim and Skoodge get closer after Skoodge feels more like an equal to Zim. ...etc. etc. long story! I got a TON more, I will bore you to death but yeah!

Sorry I didn't comment on your AU so much, I was mostly comparing and contrasting

Yeah I noticed that the membrane thing was a little far fetched so I walked around for a couple minutes (thats how I think for some reason) and I thought maybe in this AU in the episode "Invader Dib" Gaz instead of helping Zim win, just didn't care, setting off a chain of events that lead to Dib actually succeeding, along with the meekrob and resisty (is that how you spell it??) winning. Maybe Zim after attempting suicide he just resolved to not let anyone see that all the hate he got from the other Irkens was affecting him at all, when in reality it was tearing him apart. Also maybe because of his defectiveness the grip on Zim's pak isn't as tight? I also like the idea of Zim's goal being destroy the Irken's oppressors (is that the right word) so that maybe just maybe his race would forgive him? But as his bond gets tighter with those around him (namely Dib) it gets harder and harder for him to do just that. I never really thought Zim would be acting as Dib's slave, likely Dib would try and control Zim but fail miserably. Zim would probably keep Dib around because he could use him to gain intel on the meekrob and resisty and use him as bait or something like that.

Sorry I'm not very good at putting my ideas down on paper..

I DO THAT TOO, I have to listen to music and pace rapidly...and then people wonder what the heck I'm doing xD BUT THAT'S THE ONLY WAY.
Yeah, I've thought of those things too, like how Dib would work with the Meekrob which sounds like such a cool idea?? And how maybe Zim knows that his race hates him but internalizes it, because that's how some people deal with their problems, and I can see how Irken culture would lead to that being an acceptable coping mechanism... I'm so deep into this man xD

I feel like he would try to forget it, making each and every reminder that more painful
and just sometimes lock the door on everyone and just work on stuff.

Psh, I've done so much worse- I've literally written PAGES
Zim? Yes, that's something he would do I think. But I also envision his mission, fake as it may be, as a change to impress people and especially the current Tallests. Some little part of me wonders if he doesn't feel bad about killing off so many Tallests (and others) and maybe he therefore wants to forge a closer relationship with the current Tallests to make up for that somehow, but knowing canon that's probably not so

I too think that Zim just really wants to be approved by his race, I mean Zim does talk about it ALL the time.
And with the tallest yes but also because Zim has known purple and red since they were sweets. And as for killing the other tallest we never really get a cannon way for how he feels about that only he just tries to lie about it.. I'm pretty sure he probably just tries not to think about it, kinda like all his problems

"Since they were sweets "
...I'm sorry I just think of that every time smeets gets mentioned and I'm just like YES, YES THEY ARE, SUGAR-COATED AND WITH A CREAMY DELICIOUS FILLING.

True, Zim has known Red and Purple since they were smeets but I HC that he knew ALL the tallests while in training. I think it has less to do with knowing the current Tallests back before they got their title, and a lot more to do with Zim just totally idolizing any Tallest that rises to power. It doesn't exactly have a lot of canon proof, but I think he probably did the same to Miyuki off-screen, and maaaaybe Spork but he might've lacked the time to communicate with him properly. I just have a hard time imagining Zim has special feelings towards Red and Purple outside of what they can do for him...but that's just me xD

just looking at this it does seem more in line with the types of personalities you've laid down for Zim and Skoodge (Zim looks like he all, "Bitch, please." ), with Skoodge being much more passive and just wanting to keep the peace.  And from what I remember Bob got all uppity with the Tallest when it looked like he was gonna win that bet, so it makes total sense that he'd be that way in your head canon.  I actually think he'd make a great addition to their little trio, since he's one of the few other Irkens to get a distinct look and personality

Tijopi11 In reply to Spectra22 [2016-08-19 00:12:10 +0000 UTC]

Glad you got a 'bitch, please' vibe because that is exactly his attitude right here
I didn't think too hard about how he got a distinct look... making new designs for Irkens without bleeding into other designs has always been a challenge, so it's nice that they all have a really distinct look. That also kind of adds to the 'three main character' archetype. The thing that's annoying about Bobby is that frankly.. I don't really like drawing him too much, and his head being round makes it really difficult to get him to look right/good in a shot. Actually BOTH him and Skoodge are a huge pain to draw, and yet I choose them to make a part of my drawing trio Sounds like my luck. Fortunately, Zim is ridiculously fun to draw, being a main character and all.
