[B] a c k g r o u n d / [H] i s t o r y :
A typical young boy living with his mother and father, a three member household. His father, an American, was quite passionate of the Japanese arts and culture. During his visit to the country back in his university years was when he met his wife in Osaka. A few years later the couple got married and soon Tooru was born. The couple decided to move to America to live with the father's family though however it wasn't a easy life. The father's family did not seem to get used to the cultural differences of theirs and the daughter-in-law. Having stressful years going by, Tooru's father decided it was best that they would move back to Japan for his wife's sake.

Until the age of six, Tooru lived in America. Now back in Japan, Tooru had a bumpy start in his early school years as he could not speak Japanese properly, thus leading him to nearly failing the early stages of elementary school. His mother helped him at home with his studies, feeling the guilt of not giving Tooru the proper studies he needed to pass his grades. Tooru got fed up with the constant study lectures given by his mother, and turned his attention towards anime.

His father, who worked in an animation studio as a background illustrator, usually brought home his work and Tooru would watch him paint the sceneries that would be used for the shows he would watch all the time. This lead him into his interest to paint, thus also made his interest in anime grew wider to point where he met with "cosplay" as well. Tooru felt cosplaying would make him something that wasn't himself, and an excuse to be away from his studies even further. His mother however disapproved of his son's hobbies and decided to ban some of these hobbies until he received good scores.

At first Tooru was not pleased with his mother's decision, but in the end he obeyed to her wishes and studied hard to achieve his rewards. He thought that in order to achieve his time back with his hobbies completely, he offered her that if he managed to be accepted at Rousseau Academy, she would let him do whatever he pleased with.
