Description
Carrie Christophers rushed to Pallet Town's pokemon lab, hoping she wasn't late. Today was the annual trainer day where all new pokemon trainers for this particular year would be able to acquire their fist pokemon. Carrie had her eyes set on a particular one, bulbasaur. She just loved grass pokemon although water pokemon were her second favorite. Supplies were limited so she would have to get their early. The year before there were a few eager trainers who even camped out in front of the lab. Many of these trainers were from near by towns and cities. Ever since a young trainer from Pallet Town had become the Elite Four Champion many new and aspiring trainers turned their attention to the small and otherwise unassuming town.
Carrie was undecided over whether or not she would be one of these or if she would just train and travel. She had never made a real sure plan about what she would do with her bulbasaur but she wanted one badly.
Her parents had agreed to let her travel on her own for only one year, afterwards she would have to return home until she finished school. When she turned eighteen she could continue traveling again if she would like.
The air was crisp and the grass was wet with morning dew, wetting her socks and shoes. The sun was still not yet fully above the trees but she had a long ways to go if she wanted to get to the lab on time. The lab was on the far side of town by a sea route that lead to Cinnabar that beckoned one to adventure. Carrie lived on the far side of town by the woods which was fenced off to keep wild pokemon from jumping into people's backyards although this happened from time to time. They were quickly shooed out, with the occasional stubborn creature who was either caught or defeated in a battle using a borrowed pokemon from the lab. Sometimes trainers started out that way and instead of getting one of the special starters, they would start with a rattata or a pidgey. Carrie could have had one of those but she didn't like rats and her mom wouldn't let her keep a bird in the house, not with her allergies.
"Oh, good morning...um, I"m sorry what was your name again?"
Carrie snapped out of her thoughts and realized she was talking to none other than Professor Oak. He was a man, who despite his age was very fit and looked young for his age. He was walking to the lab as well, on his way to deliver the starters.
"Oh, hello Professor Oak. I'm Carrie. Carrie Christophers? My father was the computer programmer who fixed your computers last fall."
The man thought for a moment before grinning widely.
" Ah yes, Carrie. I remember you now. My memory isn't what it used to be, then again neither am I. Then again what can you do? This is life. Did you sign up for the starter giveaway today?"
"I suppose that is life, but that doesn't mean you have to sit back and accept it. Ah, yes I did sign up."
"So, which one are you planning on getting?" Oak asked as the two rounded the corner to the building.
"Bulbasaur."
He started to say something before he was cut off by one of the other children waiting for him. After Oak greeted everyone he opened the lab and the children started streaming in. There were about 30 in a line. It was a first come first serve and only 10 of each starter so not everyone was assured to get their preferred starter. This was a concern but not a pressing concern for Carrie as most people preferred Charmander or Squirtle over Bulbasaur.
The Pokemon professor gave a small speech about 'the world of Pokemon' along with various other pokemon related subjects. Then came the part everyone had waited for.
