At first I didn't understand why I stopped liking MLP after season 5, but after a while I think I finally understand.

When Starlight Glimmer became good I thought it was pretty halfassed, it turns out the reason she brainwashed an entire village and tried to destroy all of equestria is because a friend left her when she was young, that doesn't make any sense, the moment her friend got a cutie mark she became a villan and declared war on cutie marks.

I think Moondancer was a much more realistic reaction to loosing a friend.

Not only that, in MLP before the season 5 finale friendship actually meant something!

The only way Twilight managed to convince Starlight to stop was to become her friend and force the rest of the mane six to become her friends, basicly in the mlp world, if you have friends you have a happy life, if you don't your a villan, MLP doesn't understand what friendship is all about, friends are there to HELP you with your problems, not make them go away forever.

Before it was: "Don't worry, we are your friends, we are going to help you!"

Now it's: "Don't worry, we are your friends, now you don't have any problems and you never will!"

After that I decided the show was no longer for me and decided to stop watching it.

But if you like it, by all means, like it all you want! ;D

There was actually an episode about this subject. Quarrel between two fans, where other fan stopped reading Daring Do books, because he didn't like the quality of the later books.
It was in season 6
