Description
This is a gouache painting with alittle Photoshop for effects. I did this about a year ago. It's pretty clear that I was inspired by the work done on Gendy Tartakovsky's Samurai Jack, which is a beautifully crafted show, in my humble opinion. I'm also a big fan of Bill Wray, who helped with the development work on the show and is currently working on a Dexter's Lab movie. Anyway, enough of my gas. Hope you like! I've been trying in recent years to pay closer attention to artist that interest me while staying in my own style. There are so many things that artists like Scott Willis (Samurai Jack background artist), Bruce Timm and of course Jack Kirby do that make so much sense for an artist of my style and sensibility. You're terribly clever with gouache! Nicely done. You have very good color sense as well. Care to share the secrets of this particular peice? Brand of gouache? Type and dimention of surface? Kinds of brushes. I'm just very curious! Ther peices are so beautifully done

saw this on your mainpage and thought "wow! that rocks!" followed by "it looks kinda like a scene from the 'samurai jack' universe.."
judging from the comments, i wasn't the only one to recognize the influence even without your description. aside from the nifty minimalized character and objects, that background is beautifully rendered. the combo of minimal and detailed oddly works very well. the color scheme is beautiful. each element is given just the right amount of attention, and the scene is interesting. definitely pro-quality stuff.
