Description Another fractal nebula, I went for a warmer feel with this one, took me about 3 hours in gimp and Apophysis.

Comments and favs are much appreciated

wow. this is probably one of the best nebula pictures I've seen in gimp. How did you make it?

Reminds me on the fog round Eta Carinae (constellation Carina). Awsome!

It pleases me that you have used Apophysis. It reminds me that I have the tools to do this and with practice I can.

its Apophysis not gimp.

Nice flame

Yeah, sorry about that, I'll fix it.
gimp does have a flame plugin though, I just chose to use a proper fractal program and I mentioned gimp because that's where the bulk of the work was done (repainting bits, adjusting colours, adding a starfield etc.)
anyway, thanks for reminding me

Looks a bit like the orion nebula, just slightly different shape and colour, though the gassy material seeming to have been blasted out from the core reminded me of it, good use of fractals here - most who start out with fractal-based nebulae often get unnatural results

Thanks, one of the original fractals had all these weird lines and shapes dotted all over it, most of my time was spent on painting them out .
I didn't really intend for it to look like orion but when I actually compare the two, I guess your right, I can see the resemblance.
Anyway, thanks for your comment

Wow you did that with GIMP? That's really good!
I think that program is hard to use so I really wonder how you were able to do that?
Thanks for contributing it to my group, btw!
Greatly appreciate it!

Thanks, you do have to put a bit more work in to learning gimp, but it's worth it , especially with some of the filters, like customizable lens flares and being able to put a texture on a 3d sphere and rotate it (good for gas giants ). To explain how I did this I would probably have to upload the original fractals (which I am planning to do sometime soon). Oh, and thanks for accepting it

Yeah I'm sure it takes a while to learn GIMP to get that good at it!
Do you draw any of it or is it just programming?
You know, like no using a tablet, just the features of the program?
You are? That's good, make sure to let me know when you do!
I don't have PS anymore so I might need to use GIMP lol

I use both, but I've been lending myself to more painting with a tablet recently to try and create more average scenes like landscapes.
I also use Apophysis to create nebulae like this one.

Really? why'd you get rid of it? If your going to use gimp, I would recommend this [link] it rearranges the interface to mimic photoshop

It's good that you do that, it sounds like a good idea!
I can't use apophysis on this computer for some reason >.<
I didn't get rid of it, it was a trial version that was expired lol
I don't think anyone would just delete PhotoShop XD
THanks for the link, I'll check it out!

Phew, you scared me for a minute then I downloaded the trail as well, but I gave up because it made you install about 10 other useless programs which was too much for my computer to handle

Lol it did that to me too!
You don't need them though.

Are you sure? I downloaded Cs4 and had to install bridge and some thing else.

AdrienCGD In reply to TJUArt [2010-04-21 19:50:39 +0000 UTC]

I think you only need bridge.
It's like imageready for the other versions of photoshop.
Even though you don't really need them together, you still have to install them so the program works correctly.
And in the setup you can choose which programs you wanna download.

Yeah, I wondered about putting some planets in, but I was going for a plain nebula piece, so that's what I stuck with.
Anyway thanks for the comment and fav
