One thing I love about the Akron Zoo is that it's easy to see the animals wherever they are in their exhibits, but they're not so small that they're cramped inside of them. They give the animals plenty of vertical space when necessary or even room for them to get up to a run, like I saw with the lions at this visit. But as a photographer it's even better because the sides of the enclosure are often camouflaged enough that you don't necessarily see the fencing. With the red panda exhibit, it's even better because when he's up on his tree there is just the natural foliage behind him making it feel like I really did happen across him in the forest.

There are different names that have been given to the red panda, some of them being the lesser panda, fire fox, bear cat, shining cat, and shining panda. And of course, let's not forget that Master Shifu from Kung Fu Panda was a red panda!
