Description Another one from my shoot with Candace over the weekend. This was also at the Serrick Center at Defiance College, but the other side of the building where there are pillars around the entrance. Candace liked this one, and I have to say I like it too. How about you folks?

EDIT: Photo has been cropped, and tried to get the colors a little more vivid as well. Also rotated 3 degrees CCW to try to straighten it a little bit. Didn't put my border on it just because I forgot to do it and don't feel like pulling it back up in Photoshop just to do that

i like this one too. The background her look it all just flows and is very beautifully candace. To find such beauty in defiance to use as a background takes real skill

Much better - she has become the subject or the primary....

Glad you like it! I still have the sense that something isn't quite right with it though, and I can't put my finger on it.

You're missing some lights/shadows.....that's all. The composition just needs a little more life, a little flat due to lack of highlights/shadows. If you would use a reflector or diffused flash on her, it would add so much.

You could achieve the same by dodging a bit of her face, but the use of lights and shadows make or break a portrait.

Also great link that I point people too since there is so much to learn and free lessons [link]

Oh cheap trick - If you don't have an off-camera flash unit or a diffusion device to use on your cameras flash, pure white coffee maker filters can be used (sounds off the wall) or even cutting a piece of plastic (think semi-transparent like a plastic milk bottle) and: use some fill flash but diffuse it with either of the almost free above.

They have reflectors that are very small and cost under $20.00 that are very useful to direct some light to bring out more drama but controlled.

A few minor adjustments (mainly just straighten the lines) and small crop on left would make this much better.

Good shot also the colors (the purple/black) work well but also red/black/white are the power colors in graphics. But a nice capture and a few tweaks can really add more impact.

Thanks for the suggestions! I did some tweaking on it, and I really like the result. Will be updating the file on here shortly (when I get home and have access to that computer )
