Hello
I'm new.First let me say thanks to sexy-ninja-bear for sharing the line art. It's a great scene and I had a lot of fun coloring it in.
I also want to thank Zakeno for the video you shared of your HTTYD painting. I found it after seeing the movie and it got me interested in learning some computer graphics stuff.
I picked this to do as a way to learn Photoshop, since I'm not much at doing sketches yet myself. I'm not really happy with how some parts of it turned out, mostly how Toothless looks. But I did learn a lot about Photoshop, and more importantly I learned a lot about what I DON'T know how to do.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks, I loved it when I saw it too and wanted to give coloring it a shot. I'm learning a lot about digital art, maybe I'll revisit it again later

Thanks. I wanted to have a daytime setting with sharp shadows but I couldn't get anything I liked as far as coloring on Toothless so I ended up doing this. It's a shame too because the whole time I was coloring Hiccup and Astrid I was looking forward to detailing Toothless, and ended up hardly detailing him at all
I did some stuff that made me have more work in the end though, like not using layers to keep the colors, shadows, and highlights split up. I also used flat black and white sometimes instead of darker or lighter colors. And the burn / dodge tools can have some weird effects if you rely on them to shade and highlight.

Yeah, using Photoshop for the first time can be a real undertaking, but just keep at it. It gets easier the more you do it. Good job on this!

I like how you have incorporated in Toothless' many markings- he's got stripes and spots in the movie, kind of ghosted out in the scales. You show this nicely.

I would have liked it to stand out a lot more but I couldn't figure out a way to color him in that I liked and ended up just trying to give him some texture instead of just a solid color.
