Description This was for a white elephant gift exchange we do every year, and to which I always contribute a piece of art. I found the head (beak and all!) at Dollar Tree and set out to purchase every piece of the model from the dollar store, or otherwise find/recycle them. After my car went dead in the middle of the week, I had to abandon that idea, but still managed to keep the total cost reasonable. Also, it got too cold to spray paint, so I had to apply color with tape (the red duct tape accounts for $4.)

Contents: Toy gumball machine from Dollar Tree, large medicine bottle (given to me by a pharmacy tech friend), cat bowl, mustard bottles, party favor slinkies, ribbon spool, seed bead containers, craft sticks, Sculpey Ultralight.

Build time: About 5 hours. Another hour, and I'd have been able to do the tooling on the base and put a proper front plate on him.

I may buy another head at some point and see if I can make a puppet out of it.

Yeah, I think I could have made a better Servo on the same budget, had I not lost my car for a day.

If you look at Dollar Tree, you can find the head there - it just needs to have a small plastic bit removed from the front to make it accurate. Which makes it the single most useful thing I've ever seen at Dollar Tree.

I'll have to try that one of these days.

My roommate has bot parts all over the apartment.

Niiiice.

I wish I could afford nicer parts / afford to keep them around, but I think I managed to get fairly good results with cheap stuff.

BTW, those big pill bottles are excellent for a base part. The plastic those things are made of is soft, flexible and thick, and holds wood screws like mad.
