Well said.
My cousins daughter was only 21 when she was diagnosed, and had both breasts removed. She was diagnosed early because my cousin also had the same condition. Both are now in remission, thankfully. Plus my cousins daughter has had two miracle babies since.....

Looks like she had a lumpectomy on her right breast, not her left.

Inspiring, powerful and touching.
Although the topic isn't beautiful, the bravery of your friend is. Indeed.

Powerful. The strength people hold after events like this tends to make the person more beautiful than they could be with looks. Strength can go a long way, farther than your looks can.

I don't dare to say beautiful, because it isn't. Cancer and it's scars is never beautiful. But the picture is well done and encouraging!
Thank you for taking a picture with such a deep meaning. And also thanks for your friend, who shared a small part of her story with us.

Cancer has taken the lives of those I hold most dear to my heart. My mother, an aunt, my maternal grandmother, two of my wife's uncles and an aunt, and her maternal grandmother. It has threatened the lives of my mother-in-law, my wife, both of my sisters, my great uncle, all of my wife's sisters but one, and well, the list goes on.
To say this image strikes an emotional cord with me is a bit of an understatement. Tell your friend that I admire her courage and fortitude, and I hope for a long and healthy life for her.

absolutely amazing! I think scars, damages, losses etc. make people even more beautiful, more real and build personalities that can see and understand more, encourage and support others with their experience and strength.
Thank you for letting me see this.

People recoil so often from women they deem imperfect, but to me this is a story of pure strength. Β My best friend's mom died of breast cancer, it hits home in a powerful way. Β I also a bit disgusted by how many people couldn't be bothered to read the artist comment before asking ignorant questions ugh. Β

Was it abuse? My first thought was cancer, but I didn't think surgeons left you disfigured if they could help it. Wouldn't they have performed corrective surgery to make it look normal?

SW-Art-and-Design In reply to RavingDork [2014-07-31 07:33:35 +0000 UTC]
They only preform any kind of re constructive surgery if the person asks that it be preformed, and it's usually after
the healing of the initial surgery has be done. At least that's how it was for my aunt, I'm assuming it may be different
in other countries
