Description
Wonder Woman (Artemis) + Thundra
Artemis Heru is an Amazonian warrior from Fema-Mighdall. Fema-Mighdall was split away from the Utopian Isle of Themyscira by a curse from a wicked wizard. As part of the curse, the amazons of Fema-Mighdall lost their immortality. Angered by the Greek Gods, and finding themselves in the strange, weird world of Skartaris, the ancient amazonians of Fema-Mighdall turned their back on their old religion, turning to new gods.
In Skartaris, the warrior women became a dominant force, reigned in only by their desire to return to Themyscira, so many of their warriors were reluctant to spend too long away from their island. Still, the unconquerable Fema-Mighdall amazonians earned a reputation in Skartaris, and many enemy warlords and would-be conquerors derogatorily call them Femizons and their land Femizonia.
Artemis was one of the foremost warriors and somewhat unconcerned by returning to Themyscira if that time came for the island to disappear again. She wandered the lands of Skartaris, fighting, making allies and making enemies. When she met Markhon, the one-handed warrior and ally of the Warlord of Skartaris, Ka-Mandi, she found a rare respect for a male warrior. This respect is so rare, that she still refuses to talk directly to Ka-Mandi, instead communicating with Tara the She-Devil, or Zhakiru the saber cat if needed.
Artemis and Markhon explored Skartaris together. Markhon was from a land that had disappeared from Skartaris, he called Polemachus. Markhon had hopes it would return, and the two spent a good amount of time searching for clues as to where to find where it went or where it might reappear in Skartaris. When Artemis was called back to Fema-Mighdall, Markhon gifted her a quiver full of his characteristic thunderbolts. While Markhon throws them, javelin style, Artemis draws them in her bow and fires them like arrows.
After Artemis returned to Fema-Mighdall, she was barely able to settle in before the island disappeared from Skartaris and returned to the outer world, the twin island to Themyscira. Separated for so long, the two people had trouble reuniting. The Fema-Mighdalli demanded a new contest for the right to the title of Thunder Woman, a contest Artemis won over Diana, the current holder of the title. Artemis travelled to the outside world, a fiercer, more warrior like Thunder Woman. She attracted the attention of villain Psorcerer who convinced her to join him in his Frightful Five with Gizmo Pete, Sand-Mammoth, and his sister, Medusa. She did so, but when she fought the Justice League Avengers, she confronted Diana who convinced her she was on the wrong side and was besmirching the name of Thunder Woman.
Artemis left the Frightful Five (who reverted to their first name Fearsome Four). With a much better understanding of the outside world, Artemis became a better hero (though she is on occasion on the opposite side of other heroes in some situations). She did join the Justice League Avengers when they fought Morgaine Le Fey and followed her back to Skartaris as an expert on the enemy and the destination. After helping the JLA, Abby Kale, and the Obsidian Knight defeat Morgaine Le Fey, she decided to remain in Skartaris. Though Diana reclaimed the title of Thunder Woman in the outside world, Artemis’ possession of Markhon’s thunderbolts means she’s always worthy of the name.
Artemis was in Skartaris when Fema-Mighdall inevitably returned to Skartaris and she welcomed her sisters back.
Meta-Backstory
So…. I lied. I did another character as I thought of another land to fill Skartaris before I proceed to the next step in the project. So sue me 😊 The whole idea came from the idea that the hidden island of Themyscira could be in Skartaris. Eventually I realized that was a dumb idea, for the Wonder Woman amalgam would constantly need excuses or deus ex machina to continue to be a hero in the outside world. But then I got to thinking about the future of Femizonia and Thundra… remembered a lot of amalgams on this site of Thunder Woman (usually Wonder Woman and Thor) and realized, I could do an alternate Thunder Woman of Thundra and Artemis. And then I realized that Bana-Mighdall could be the island that is in Skartaris. I was so excited. And then, when I remembered Thundra was kind of led astray by the Wizard and the Frightful Four, I knew that the Frightful Four and the Fearsome Five would be a great amalgam. Given Shimmer’s powers and Medusa’s name, I figure she can turn people to stone with her prehensile hair (and yeah, that kinda makes her the grey gargoyle… what can I say, there are no original ideas out there are there?)
