Lois Foutley: a sassy, outspoken, hard-working, loving red-haired New England mother….so why is Lois Griffin the popular cartoon mom? Lois is a Connecticut nurse and single mother with two ‘tween-age children who tries keep things together despite shaky salaries, a beetle that works pretty iffy, an odd hair-do, an eccentric son that gets into trouble, and practically taking Ginger and Carl’s friends under her wing (wouldn’t you say she is the best parent on ATBG?). She is also voiced by Laraine Newman, who was one of the first cast members of Saturday Night Live www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCLPH3… who voiced many Viacom cartoons like cult classics “Danny Phantom” and “Rick and Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in the World” (she impersonated Chas nee Chastity Bono in one episode), so she really knew how to work a New England Chowder accent and bring on a sense of non-chalance to her snarky remarks. Also Lois is a large and lovely woman that unconsciously wears a MILF outfit made up of: high heels, tight pants, and a cleavage baring tank top to go with her ample charms (damn, me making puns); okay in the last episodes she lost weight, put we pretty much still remember her as a BBW and that’s important; it teaches us that you can be seen as attractive and be taken seriously no matter what size you are, that your body size doesn’t really reflect your character and that it shouldn’t overshadow who you are as a person. The show didn’t make her into a big fat joke. Now if only we can fill out stretch pants as well as her……
