Bony fish can be magnificent apex predators in their own right.

People always look to the sharks...they don't realize a lot of what they consider shark food are actually competing apex predators!
Like tuna for example. Tuna deserve a lot more respect in having mastered the world's most food-poor environment and being apex predators that feed other top-level hunters that cannot access prey.

Yeah, it's just such a huge problem - people aren't exactly ready to deal with fixing the ocean, though they've created endless problems... So many people are unaware of how bad things are concerning all fish species - the ocean is practically dead compared to how it used to be before large-scale fishing. It's really mind-boggling. And while the fish continue to die, we continue to fish. Urgh

Yes, it's real. It's one of the most catched marlins worldwide.

It's not a subspecies, it's a former species. And now I noticed that actually it's valid name is Kajikia audax.

"Indo-Pacific: tropical, subtropical and temperate waters. Highly migratory species, Annex I of the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea (Ref. 26139). The distribution in the Pacific Ocean is unique among billfishes and tunas in that it forms a horseshoe-shaped pattern from the northwest Pacific through the eastern Pacific to the southwest Pacific (Ref. 30443). In the Indian Ocean, fish are more densely distributed in equatorial regions with higher concentrations off eastern Africa, in the western Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and off northwestern Australia (Ref. 30444)."
