I find it helps to kinda do an outline or make points where I know certain features will be.. like the eyes especially.. and here's a secret: if you're drawing from a reference, try drawing upside down I do it all the time. then u draw only what's exactly there, not what you think you see 
and it helps when I love who I draw!

for upside down, i mean like if youre using a picture as reference, u can put it upside down, put your art upside down next to it and draw that way. sounds weird but i swear it works! for shading i basically use a 9b pencil and a stomp alternatley, and finally rub with a tissue. but be careful with tissue it smudges easily

ya that's what i do! stomps are also known as stumps, they are extemly tightly wrapped rolls of paper with a point like a pencil, u rub the tip on your art to blend fine shading so u don't see pencil lines, or on its side if u want to smooth a whole shaded area

cheonmaneyo! um well stomps usually come in packages, i love the ones that are like 1.5 cm wide, i think like 15.00 or 10.00 for a pack? pencils also usually come on a pack like 30.00-40.00 (canadian). some lighter ones might cost less but if u want the 8 or 9b its worth it!
