How many people live in this gigantic ship?

Well they can actually be UN MANNED.
That is a AI network running everything, including hologram crew, cybernet environment....
There are a couple where only one or two people are on board...
But the number is in the billions on average. It litterally is what the Altronians live on. The consider planets as weekend getaway places at best, good to visit, and yet leave untouched.
Since most of the ship is really a 4 dimensionally displaced hypercube, there really is no limit to the number who could live on it. Imagine DOOR TO DOOR Tardis with weird instant linkages all over to any section. And pretty much every BattleCON is connected dimensionally, you could turn a alley and end up in a wholy different BattleCON.... Or different section. The ship constantly sends a empathic if not telepathic update where you are and how to get to another section easier. Oddly enough, they still have a Highway track big enough for Star Destroyes could run along in a long loop along its entire length....
When Humans discover the ease of just the gate-doors, they wonder why the Highway.... To which the Altronians kinda shrug and say "Why not?" confusing the humans.
The ship does not use thrust as we know it to move, yet has thrusters. (Some humans think Altronians are either great commedians or just insane.)
Redunancy is the answer, and lots of it.

Never mind, did not leave as a download....
I have a closer up view of ths ship compares in the same galery.
As to the sections and their names map area.. Well I may ad that in a better render in a bit.
This is one of those that when you do print you want to do poster size.

Nice line work. Attractive linewidth variation and kinds of fun, chewy data crammed in here.

When I first came up with the ship idea was just before Empire Strikes back.... And I am still toying with the look.

You still have a image of a Heavy Cruiser from FIghting Ships?
Looks a little like a Rebel Blockade runner, only rounder and sleeker? Also seems to have a spinal mount gun. I assume you were the artist for it...
It seems I misplaced my book, time to hit Shinders...

This really is a repost of the earlier image but I added more.
Also I added for size the 50 Kiloton nuke for compare.
Not as big as I thought it might be....
Also still not done. Doing aft and close ups next.
