I chose this way of life.I chose to be ostracized by the general public.
I chose to live in a way,
My parents want to kill me for,
And my family wants to disown me.
I chose this way,
Where no matter how good I am,
How caring or faithful,
My place of worship,
Says I'll rot in hell.
I chose to put up with,
All of the heckling,
Fag, Homo, Queer.
Yup, I chose that all.
I chose a way,
Where in most places,
I can't marry someone,
I love with all my heart.
I chose to live my life,
So that if I want to bring in a child,
The world will scorn me,
And deny me a family of my own.
I chose to be treated as sub-human,
By the majority of this earth.
I mean, who needs basic rights?
I sure don't.
Don't you see the logic?
I mean,
Who wouldn't chose this way?
Look at all these lovely perks,
Yeah, sure.
I chose to be a gay.

I agree. The constitution even says that all men are created EQUAL! And some of my best freinds are gay ...there the same as all of us and if people can't realize these then there messed your in there heads.

True it isn't a choice, but I would still be gay if it was one because my first best friend (later boyfriend) was gay and liked me, my dad is happy for me and my partner and I helped my sister come out as bi. So for their sakes (and for 'personal benefits' I will not mention - let's keep it PG in here) I would still be gay no matter what bullies and complete strangers think.

Thank you for that. I have had so many people tell me that it is a choice and that i can change and everything would be better for me.I've lost friends and familly because of it and been called horible things. The truth is things most likely would be much easier if I was straight, but I'm not and people don't see that you can't choose who you fall in love with. That touched me deeply. Than you again.

I know it all too well, since I'm bi, my het and gay friends always are like: "hey, you're at least free to choose" and i'm like "yeah...totally, you monogamatic bastards -.-"

Good poem, but Some people do choose. Not many, but some do. I do. I made my choice to be me. Thats my choice. And as weird as it sounds, I enjoy the name calling. It reminds me that Im not like most of the world, with their judgmental ways. But I stand by my choice to be bisexual. (Although, likeing girls isnt always my choice. I choose the boys though, as my choice.)

There's a great T-shirt out there that puts it this way: I'm only pretending to be Gay for all the social benefits.
Only the most ignorant and/or self-absorbed people can think that we choose to be queer. THis is a really nice and concise summation of that sort of ignorance. Thank you.

this is the same argument my brother throws at me whenever homosexuality is brought up, along with the fact that they're 'disgusting and unnatural' which makes me believe I can never tell him I think I'm gay...thank you for writing this ^^
