It's only a bust, as you'll see on some of the others, his shoulder would normally extend far further.

Humm, the neck, I see, yeah, I tend to draw characters with thin necks and slender builds. I blame my self for being built that way. But is seems to be that Hellboy is generally drawn with a fairly slender neck at the top and it just slides down into the shoulders where he is the widest.
