that was a neat angle in the movie. feel some people have blown it out of proportion... but to me it actually made sense. granted they could've handled it a bit better than in the movie. Still it gave Batman pause, was probably the only thing that would've made him stop at that point... and probably made him finally realize how far (too far) he had gone in this.
He wasn't listening to anything Superman was saying up till that point, and unknowingly Clark said one of the few things that would actually stop him in his tracks.
