Description Something a bit different to normal, in light of recent events: [link]

This picture is dedicated not only to Sophie Lancaster, but to anyone and everyone who has lived in fear of others simply because of their appearance or their chosen lifestyle.

May we never live in fear, and may we never let those who cause us fear to change who we are.

I'm am not a goth, metalhead, or punk. To be honest, I don't see alot of those type of people in real life either except on T.V. However, I am truly sorry for what happened to that girl. Also, I want to say I enjoy your art and learning more about the gothic subculture. Your stuff is truly educational.

It's so stupid. What happened, I mean. To be degraded, or humiliated, or judged just because of an outter appearance is so stupid, but sadly that's how humans work. It's simply not logic! Everybody searches for happiness, but when you find it, and it turns out to be different from what society dictates, then you're automatically "evil", "a freak", "satanic/atheist" or "lame" and people then are allowed to make you live in fear or degrade you. So disgusting!

Hi, I'm a paperboy in the Netherlands.
When i do my round a lot of people stare at me because of my look.
Some children start yelling at me, calling my fag or junkie or somthing like thate.
But they have one problem...
I always have som kind of weapon on me, so i'm not scared.
So when they start yelling, i start running towards them, even if they are with more.
And here it comes, now they are scared.
They are with about five man, and i'm on my own.
They start yelling thing about me because of my looks.
And if i go to them, they are scared like hell.
Because not everyone is like me, some people could get scared , and run away.
Thos yelling people won't alway directley feel like they have won.
So they wil follow them...
And, well, you know whate could happen after that...

I hope ther will come a day that everyone could be there selves without having to be scared.
But thate day won't be in the near future...

I hate how the press describe incidents such as these as "gang wars"; I recall no instance of the goth subculture picking fights with thugs like these.
From what I heard, Sophie and Robert were trying to strike up a friendly conversation and offer out cigarettes.

You know... this one of my favourite arts. It's so simple but it's got a very important message. The message which probably won't be understood in the future. I think that threshold of tolerance is getting tigher and tigher nowadays. Even if there are no clear signs of this situation.

Personally, I can put myself between almost all Goth (stereo)types. I love wearing not only black clothes, but also the colourful ones (of course, if they look Celtic or Aristocratic). I'm so fascinated with the XIX century and I love Art in general. Thanks to Goth subculture I discovered the spiritual part of my life, even my Mum is interested in my "Goth" hobbies. I'm trying to show her some cool bands (such as Aesma Daeva) to prove that she has not to be afraid of Goth.

The people who do not accept any differences, are primitive in my opinion. I had been harassed due to my fantasy-medieval-inspired look. It (mentally) hurt like hell.

I won the first prize in my categorie and her story got into the paper! I didn't think I would win, I just wanted to make sure people who had never heard of her would get their eyes open a little ^^

I'm Goth and I've had my experiences of discrimination and I must say that it's horrible how people can be so ignorant at times, that they would kill someone just by how they appear.

Sophie was an innocent woman and some stupid teenagers had to take her life away. Those boys can spend the rest of their life behind bars. Greedy, Foolish Humans!!

R.I.P Sophie. May her soul rest in peace in heaven.

I know others have said this, but...

It is really sad that that anyone, adult or teenager, could do such a brutal thing to two people guilty of no more than dressing differently than what some people think people should look like. People who think Goths are inferior to others probably write essays for Humanities class about how prejudice is bad, but don't realize that prejudice is not just against black people and women. This world will never fail to disappoint me.

I hadn't heard about this in the news, maybe it's because I live in the US.
I can understand a certain degree of hesitation or ignorance when it come to dealing with people who are different, but this level of blind intolerance always astounds me.

This very nice memorial piece. Hopefully Sophie's story will lead people to think more open mindedly about alternative subcultures as well as race and religion.

Oh.
My.
God.

One of the worst aspects of this is that they were killed by TEENAGERS. 15-17 year-old teenagers....
That is horrible.
Really, really horrible.
Having so much hate at a such a young age, and pouring that hate at people that deserve that the least.
Killing someone for being different!!
That is the best way to throw your life into a trash bin.
And even know I'm not goth (atleast I don't try to be goth, even know I do dress differently, wear combat shoes in winter, and half of my clothes are black (i'm a mix of... stuff. I admire goths and punks while watching fashion shows XD)), I have been called goth, even a SKINHEAD by a stupid asshole once, (that guy was surely blind) and he kept harrasing me and filming me while I was trying to pull my bag out of his hands.
:C

This breaks my heart. As an American, I have always had this naive view of the UK as a more civilized place. This shouldn't ever happen anywhere.

Once again, I want this on a shirt. Not for fashion's sake, I want to wear it as a sign that we can't forget and can't be afraid. I have a favorite club that recently went to being members only to try and stop the harrassment. It's only gotten worse, because now anyone who wants to smoke or get a breath of cool air on a crowded night is hassled and antagonized outside. But, you've reminded me that we have to keep going, we can't change ourselves for safety.

Thank you.

We have the death penalty here, at least in theory.

We also have one of the highest, if not *the*, highest, murder rates in the world.

There will always be gangs, there will always be those willing and even eager to kill those who are different, and there is nothing you nor I nor the government can do to change that.
