This is a great shot! It looks like it's streaking out behind the telephone pole... awesome job! I would love to know how you took such an awesome shot, because I'm finding it troublesome to get some lightning shots.

i had about 200 shots from that night
and try and time it haha even though it is hard

It's hard even for professionals doing this all their lives to catch a bolt of lightning, you did superbly. I love the contrast of the lights of the town with the lightning. Great shot.

I'm glad both you and Matt managed to catch the ridiculous lightning last night, I was stuck on the train coming back from the loop, of course, without my camera.

it actually wasnt a trick but i figured out that exposures exceeding 6 seconds do not allow the lightning to show up on a digital camera.
