Description I was very lazy with this, but I won't be with my next one. these are some progress shots of the maquette...from armature to blocking in, to..finished? yeah, I didn't take enough pictures to really SHOW the process, but it still may be of some interest. the bottom two were RIGHT before baking, because I was scared he'd crack bad.....

That's one pretty character. Did it crack or it's ok? How did you do the mouth by the way? Doesn't sculpy deforms because of gravity? I've never worked with it (only used epoxy clay)

I seriously need to bust out my clay again and try to make something other than cute little wannabe pigs....

How...How in the WORLD do you get your clay to get that smoooth!? I mean, I can get my clay smooth, but not that smooth, what is your trick?!? hehe. Gaaah, I must learn from you, YOU'RE AWESOME!!!

Oh, I couldn't have smoothed that out nearly as much as I did without Turpenoid. You can use Turpenoid or Turpentine, (turpentine isn't as healthy though...man, I get a little dizy when I use it!) and brush it on the clay...makes it smooth and creamy like water clay...really awesome! I'm telling ya, the forums and stuff I've found on sculpting are complete time savers. I'll pass along the first tutorial I ever looked through:

This is a fun one to just read through in the evening...I still refer to it sometimes. It's bewildering how awesome this guys creature is, too....wow.

Happy Sculpting!

Hey, Hey!! I really never knew that method...but WOW, I shall try that turpenoid out!! Thanks! And you know what...out of all the forums I've looked at, hehe, this is the one forum I saw! How crazy is that. It must be a popular one eh?! Thanks for sharing though and if you run into anything else I'm all ears! Thanks for your help, I greatly appreciated it!! Even though I just do this as a hobby, its fun learning other techniques and trying them out on the models! ^_^

Ha! I gave you a link to some crappy old forum you've already seen. To tell you the truth, I don't like that forum except for that one tutorial. The guy who did that tutorial has worked in the film industry for YEARS, and he had some great info to share...

The only other forum I've got that I use is currently down, and I think it'd probably be more involved than you'd ever care to learn...all the mold making and casting stuff. Still, though, you can bookmark the link and check back:

....nothing lowers the spirit like seeing how much work and MONEY one has to put towards making molds and casts....at least temporarily lowers the spirit. hahah. sculpting is forever exciting!!!

Hey! Thanks for the link!! Very interesting indeed! And no worries about the other site, its still great!! hehe. I don't know much about molds or casts, but I'm sure its extremely expensive!! Again thanks for all of your help! You rock!!

I think it was a cool work of art in just the tin! But of course the finished product is just as awesome.

thanks! glad you like the character. it's hard to find an audience for a creation, especially when I did so much movie stuff in the past. thanks again!
