I'm not sure if they broke a sweat in those days.It was truly a Gentile Sport, at one time. Today, PICKLE BALL has taken over. Probably popular in the UK as well...

Nice thing about table tennis (Ping Pong here in The States) is that
IT's a TABLE, and like pool tables can double as other things. Like real
tables, or beds, when house guests number more than expected. Extra
blankets and/or table settings are all that's needed. Hey, we're in this
together! When I worked as an art director in adverting (35 years), I'd always
choose the photographer who had a pool table in his studio.... I loved to
play Nine Ball!!!!*

*PS It was a fun job, oftentimes....
