I really can't make my mind up about this one. One minute I like it, the next I don't. The reference pic doesn't seem to be giving up it's secrets easily! The poor scan isn't helping matters either! Ah well, I'll have to judge it when it's finished...Related content

Yeah, I'm trying a few new things at the mo. I've changed my shading style and I'm sticking mainly to a 2B pencil instead of using about 5 different ones for each pic! Only problem is, I'm running out out 2B's FAST!

This looks AWESOME so far!! The expression is absolutely perfect (as is the likeness)--the way his finger is "squinching" his eye is just adorable!! **dissolves into fangirliness once again**

The drawing has grown on me since I posted this WIP, I think mainly because of all of the lovely comments! Sometimes I can't see the wood for the trees....

I'm like that with every pic! When you're working so close it's hard to see the big picture, so to speak.

Great job so far! love it! I know the reference pic, it's beautiful and you're doing a great job and I totally recognize him from the thumbnail. Why don't you like it? I think you're doing great! the eyes are very well drawn, like there's life in them

It looks fine to me. You just wait, you'll see it too in the end. The skin texture and the top of his hair (the bit you have already drawn) look great!

Yeah, it's growing on me now. I think my expections were a bit high because of my previous drawing of Gary Oldman. Sometimes I find it hard to judge a drawing until it's finished. I just keep feeling there's something not quite right with this one, but there's plenty of time for that feeling to change

I get amazed by my drawings too sometimes, if that doesn't sound too vain. Never in a million years would I have thought I would be capable of what I'm drawing now, and definitely not in less than a year! And the journey's not over yet, there's still plenty of room for improvement

Your work on the brown paper is awesome, please don't change! I wouldn't know where to begin with something like that.. me and colour do NOT mix! Although, I have to admit, I am curious as to what they'd look like on white paper... maybe someday, eh?

Looks to me another great piece of work! Love how you do eyes, with much expression! I'm amazed at how you can do hair! I still have that to work out! Your drawing is very good! Can't wait to see this one finished!

Yeah, I found drawing hair VERY difficult at first. The technique has only just clicked into place. One of the best tips I got was to concentrate on the shapes in the hair rather than each hair. After all, if it's all flowing in the right direction, no-ones going to notice if a hair is out of place! For Gary Oldman's hair I lightly shaded sections of it, then created highlights with my kneaded eraser, then moving onto filling in the dark tones. I've found you've just got to build it up gradually. Hope that helps a little bit
