Description
This was a commissioned piece.Original is an 8x10 pencil done on strathmore bristol vellum.
No references used for this piece. Just used the customers description of what he wanted and let my imagination do the rest.

Well, while the details are rather amazing... I believe that you might have had to sacrifice some of them for the greater good of the image here.
What I mean is: for a night scene with such a strong light focus, the shadow are almost nonexistent. You might have to get real ballsy and just blotched out spots, really put that B2 pencil to the paper and get some real blacks in there. That's the kinda sucky nature of night scenes though, you have to black out a lot of your details, and when I say a lot... I mean a lot. :c But, the piece can often be a lot more powerful because of it... push that contrast.
I'm aware that this is a finished commission, one the owner was satisfied with, but I just liked the image enough to offer my opinion of it.

Thank you so much for your comments. I must admit, to go darker or not to go darker certainly was a huge dilemma for me. Because so much detail was asked for in this commission, I opted to not make it as dark as it could have been so that the details could come through. Although, I do see some spots that would've benefitted from some of your darker suggestions! So thank you, it's in my mind now for next time! But I will admit, between you, me and the world

Oh, trust me, I understand. I really do! Especially with it being a commission with specific requirements attached.
And, yeah, I take a lot of artistic liberties with night scenes, or even with back lighting. Usually, I just have to decide on at least two light sources... With the light source closest to the figure being some mystical off the camera fairy that no one knows about that is as bright as a small sun or something...

Oh I loved playing Baldur's Gate! LOL But it was so long ago, I really don't remember anything specific (heck, I have a hard time remembering what happened last week! LOL) Either way, there was no conscious effort of emulating Baldur's Gate with this one. Completely brought to life by me with customer's input. Only references used were his descriptions
