I'm new to critiques so bear with me here.

I love all of the colours in this. I don't know if you dressed her up for this or if she was just wearing the dress but the yellows and greens go together so well and they're lit up perfectly here.

Her hair is also beautiful. You've gotten the picture clear enough that all of her curls light up too. Not to mention her face, that's the best part. She looks like she's lit up from her own happiness.

Whoever's daughter she is, they're lucky to have such a happy child e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> She looks like she'd be a dream to work with.

I would like to start by saying that the lighting is amazing here, and the little girl is adorable. I love her smirk, it's kinda like she's planning something.

HOWEVER.

Beyond the smirk, this photograph doesn't really hold much artistic purpose. What's she looking at? Is she supposed to symbolize anything? Or are you just shoving a photograph of a kid down the internet's throat?

A pretty photo it may very well be, goodsir/goodlady, but there's not much about it to make the viewer speculate, feel, or think. I would suggest props, like clocks and other such things, for the viewers own interpretation, or if you have a statement to make. It could catch their interest for longer and make them wonder about your other work, and perhaps you as a person.

Beyond the lack of purpose I see (or, rather, don't see) here, it's quite good and I wholeheartedly encourage you to keep it up. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> You haz mad skillz.

As much as I appreciate constructive criticism, I have to say that I hate it when people think every photo has to have a higher meaning to it. It doesn't make sense to me. There is conceptual art, documentation, artistic documentation and so many more styles. For example, do you think a photo of a wild animal needs to have a purpose or symbolize something? Or is it okay if it's just well-executed artistically and technically? And there is a lot worse stuff being shoved down the internet's throat than cute kids and kittens and whatnot.

Anway, sorry (or not so much), I've had way too many critiques on this photograph and I don't see much more new info coming in. I do appreciate the input though.

This is quite the photograph. The setting is beautiful, the focus is clear, and what an adorable model! While I would have maybe liked to see what she was doing, I'm pretty sure she was drumming. I believe photographs should tell some sort of story or scene--and this photograph gave me a lot of ideas of what the the story was right away. I like how the outfit matches well with the background (butterflies are a part of nature). Great movement capture. As beautiful as this shot was, however, I do feel like I've seen other pieces like it before. Perhaps try experimenting with different angles for a bigger impact on the viewer.

I honestly love this photo mostly from the fact that it looks like they put much effort into it. I love how the dark and light contrast, yet blend. The only thing I would change is that the arm and face skin don't match up. Yes, it's difficult to make artificial light via PS, so I give it credit for that e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>
Also, can't get over how perfect the focus was on the face. Love it. And the face in general is so... natural. I just would change the fake smile e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="395" title=" (Lick)"/>
But even I cant help but do that.

The light isn't photoshopped! It's from a reflector, that's why it looks artificial. I probably should have a bigger reflector for portraits, that way it would look better.

Hello, I firstly found this piece to be eye-catching and beautifully done. The technique with the contrast makes the little 'princess' stand out more which creates impact and gives the right effect. You have the correct depth of field and because the background is all the same thing it offers focus to your subject.

One thing I would say about this piece is the top left hand corner, where the flare starts it becomes pixelated which could be improved by adjusting sharpness or changing the setting on the camera. It can easily be achieved when you have taken such a stunning photograph, which captures expression which makes it original and inspiring.

One last thing. The girl is cute ♥ x

Thank you very much for the critique! I agree about the flare - I noticed it myseld - but, to be honest, it doesn't bother me that much.

It doesn't bother me either but it's the only way to improve and improve the quality of your work.

Keep it up! (: x

First off, this photograph is so so cute!! She is just adorable. I'll start with the positives- the lighting is perfect. It looks like natural morning light. Anyways, you really used it to your advantage by having the light behind her. The colors are perfect too; they are so vibrant and happy, but not over saturated either. The image has perfect sharpness too. There doesn't seem to be any grain or whatnot. So overall this is very technically correct which makes for a lovely photo.

The biggest problem with this photograph honestly is the cropping. At the bottom of the picture her thumb is cut off. Since she is making some kind of motion with her hand, that seems to be part of the main focal point to this picture. So it ruins it a bit that we can't see the rest of her hand. (By the way the top part of the photograph has no problem with the cropping, just the bottom.)

Other than that, I don't really have any critique to offer. I do think showing more of the bottom part of the picture would really change the overall impact of it. But I think you did a beautiful job and definitely keep up the great work! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/m/m… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="578" title="Meow :3"/>

I absolutely agree - the way her hand is cropped out was one thing that bothered me as well. I already made a note for myself so that I must not be so close when taking pics. It's always good to have some room for error.

Thank you very much!

The colors in this photo work really well making the image seem calm and exciting at the same time. I can't believe this is a photo, just wow!! At first glance I thought this was a drawing. The technique was really great, the fact that you were able to see and then capture this moment alone is extraordinary, I could never have done something like this, but also that you were able to line up the shot perfectly in order to balance the image, this is amazing! The overall impact was very strong, and I'm hoping to see more amazing photographs.

I love how the light shines to the right side of her face, gives the feeling that she has hope, no matter on what circumstances. However, the lighting sort of made her look like she is shining and that makes the photo look rather weird.

This photo brings me my inner child, the smile and the looks shows happiness and peaceful childhood. Consider nowadays there are still children getting abused at some places on Earth; Her happiness is one thing, her facial expression gives the sense of hope not only impacted me, it could also change the way people look at their unfulfilled childhood and let them live young again.

It's good that you look her that way, because no childhood should be taken away.

This piece attracted my eye right away! The colors are outstanding and give a really nice, warm feeling. I love how blurred the background is, but the lights and the high contrast still make it very interesting to look at! The rim light also helps the girl stick out. The composition is very nice too. I love the subtle smile on her face and the look of her eyes make me think that she is lost in thought - maybe dreaming of being a princess?
All in all, I think the elements play very well together and create an interesting photo, keep the good work up!

Hello my name is Jenna and I will be writing a critique for you! I am a polymer clay artist (you can look at my work here: zipadeedoodads.storenvy.com) and have been on Deviantart for awhile. Here is my critique: This photograph is stunning! I love it so much! The butterfly dress is so pretty! The way you took this photograph makes the young girls face light up and your eye is drawn right to her. It is beautiful! Her smile is so cute and her hair looks effortless. Even the background is really cool! I would love to hang this up in my apartment somewhere! Great work! Keep up the great work!

This is my first critique so I hope I do alright. To start off the model is adorable!!! Love her smile, pose, and outfit!
The image all around is lovely, and how you captured it is perfect. I do though encourage you to try different poses, be creative.
Try different angles, lightening, and various emotions should be tried for more of an impact on this model. But all in all you did a splendid job!!! And this photo does give me the feeling of her as a princess, she would look magnificent with a little crown and a gown I am sure! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

Thank you very much for the critique!
I do agree that some other poses would've been even better at conveying the thought. But in this case I didn't plan anything and I couldn't give that specific instructions to her because she would've acted it too much. She's about 4, to be fair, and I'm not used to taking photos of kids either. But enough excuses! I do think this could've been better in some ways. Thank you for the kind words as well!
