I really admire your skill capturing action shots like this. such a moment in time, & it's not still like a flower. amazing work

Trippy4U In reply to chibiharuka [2009-11-23 04:57:02 +0000 UTC]

Yes definitely not still like a flower...but when one is in the grove and seeing very well...the brain starts seeing in slow motion mode. This works well as long as the other motor skills function in real time

Thank you so much for such a sweet insightful comment

I've been asked to photograph some children playing tennis, so I'll keep that feeling in mind & hope I can capture some "moments"

Things to do when shooting sports/action. I don't know which camera you use. But if it is a SLR, Put it in manual mode and then set your ISO high enough (outdoors probably ISO 400) so that you can get at least 250th of sec shutter speed...1000th would be better. Open the lens up to its widest aperture...f1.4, f2.8, f3.5 etc. Depending on which lens you have. Then put the camera in continuous autofocus mode. Have fun.

Welcome...one final thing...get as close to the field of play as possible without interfering with the game of course

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

chibiharuka In reply to Trippy4U [2009-11-23 23:01:57 +0000 UTC]

perfect I'll do that, & I don't take up that much space so I shouldn't get in anyone's way. using a 400iso is a really good suggestion coupled w/the faster shutter speed & open aperture I should freeze the action pretty well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, thanks for your time & tips

A fair scene of "centralized attack". The photo has many elements of American Football, and those who haven't got a single idea of the sport may find many answer from this picture.

What I think is the best in the photo, is the accuracy. You need to snap from the audience, which makes it even harder to be exactly precise... in the middle of a match. Yet it looks like you stood very next to the players.

Trippy4U In reply to Ragwyn [2009-11-09 14:38:30 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for such a thoughtful review Ragwyn. I was actually on the field..that makes it a little bit easier to get closer to the action...that and a long lens...here a 400mm 2.8. But one can buy a scalpel but that don't make them a doctor.

Manwathiell [2009-11-04 19:02:21 +0000 UTC]

Where were YOU standing? Great capture, indeed... I donΒ΄t look at these sports at all, but I can "feel" them playing here!!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Trippy4U In reply to Manwathiell [2009-11-05 18:47:50 +0000 UTC]

I was behind the goal posts...I have press credentials that allow me access to the field and other off-limits to the public locations. Thank you so much...if you "feel" when looking at a photographs, then the photographers have done their job

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Manwathiell In reply to Trippy4U [2009-11-13 21:05:02 +0000 UTC]

So you got like a "free pass" to go everywhere? That is so cool!
And... itΒ΄s also somewhat dangerous, depending on the location, isnΒ΄t it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Trippy4U In reply to Manwathiell [2009-11-13 23:01:02 +0000 UTC]

Yes it is quite dangerous. I have been run over by players like these pictured here. I have had soccer, tennis and basketballs hit me too. But the worst ever was a baseball that broke my ribs. Its hard when you are concentrating and looking through the viewfinder of the camera to see the whole field of play at once and then just like that, bam, you're in the game.

trust me my prejudice towards football is nothing compared to chad reed (he is a supercross rider i can't stand). with a couple of drinks i can actually watch a game of football better than soccer
but your shot is very well composed that i really enjoy it.

the energy, the effort, the pain, all condensed into a tight shot. you captured the emotion, the moment. i rarely do that - i.e. - my lack of talent! but you have it, and i'm glad to see that. again, great capture.
