the oedipal complex used to be zutara's greatest argument against kataang.untill season 3 showed katara sporting ursa's do, thus making zutara an oedipal complez thing too.. if zuko falls for her now..
but. upon further thinking it hit me XDDD
i had a theory which works the oedipal thing in our favor XDDD
What makes it somewhat ok for Zutara to happen in light of this new claim of Oedophilia is that, Katara never treated Zuko like a son. If Zuko does fall for katara now it won't be because she happens to look like Ursa. It's because I predict there will be more interaction between these two, and they will get closer. plus Katara's a strong and beautiful bender. If she happens to look better just cos she has a hairstyle similar to Ursa, you can't hold that against Zuko then XD. He has already shown a bit of an interest in her in CoD, in the cave you know...?
Why the Oedipus complex works against Kataang is because ... Katara sadly DOES treat Aang like a son. Therefore it does seem odd for Aang to fall for someone who treats him like her son XD. Katara never treated Zuko in that manner.

Gotta love how Zutara fans were clamoring about Katara's hair looking like Zuko's mom's when it basically only had the shape and top part right but when Roku's wife is seen, no one says anything.

I've heard just about anything said about Zutara. Some say it caused the recession. Some say it's canon as fuq. Some say Zutara is the holy of holies. Some say it will cause the apocalypse, jointly alongside Makorra and/or Masami. Some say that Zukaang is more canon than either Kataang or Zutara. Some say shipping Zutara gives you revitiligo, but lots of HOPE! Some say Zutara is what ruined our fandom and more or less killed it. Some say that old obese Chinese men dressed up in teenage girls' underwear are the true Zutarians. I think you get my point.

I hated that ending! All season long i waited for them to be together, then the writers had to go all "The hero always gets the girl" Well, the former villian was katara's soulmate! UGH! Anyway, i loved this drawing, hilarious!!!!!!

Gods! I still love Zutara! Especially because it's not canon, as much as I wish it was. I'm rewatching the series and all I see is "Aang's obession" when it comes to Katara. I think he loves her because she's
A) She was the first girl he saw after 100 years.
B) He never really had a mother, so he latched ontot he first mother-figure he had. Which is Katara.
Even rewatching the series, and knowing kataang happens... I still don't see any romantic development on Katara's part! It's just NOT THERE! And on top of that, I don't see any character development on Aang's part. He's still the same. He keeps running away from his problems. Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Katara, hell even Mai! Showed character development. And my biggest pet peeve with kataang is how Aang treats Katara's lose of her mother. It's like he doesn't even care! No "I'm sorry" or "Oh, you poor dear" it's like he doesn't acknowledge it! Where Zuko does!

Heh. People can agrue that Aang eventually acknowledges the lost of Katara's mother in the Souther Raiders, but I'm refering to Book 1: Chapter 3: The Southern Air Temple. Where Katara told Aang the first time. He completely blows her off.
Aang doesn't show much character development at all, in my opinion. He's still the same goofy kid and is pron to taking extremes when something doesn't go his way. I honestly don't see how Katara realized Aang was the one. Plus, the "powerful bender" comment is so vague, but the end, Zuko was a powerful bender. He was strong enough to be considered a master and in the beginning of the series nobody would have said that about him. Yes, Azula was going insane near the end, but he was strong enough at least to keep up with her, when before he never was. To say that the Avatar is the only one able to be considered a "powerful bender" is folly.

I am in total agreement with you! I'm actually somewhat positive somewhere in the series, Zuko was called "a powerful bender" himself. I'm not sure when and where, but I'm fairly sure. And Aang's development wasn't as full as the other characters, I agree. I wonder why they did that, if they ever noticed...

This isn't the most accurate explanation as I'm only relying on what I learnt from studying Oedipus at college, Wikipedia has a very detailed page if you're interested. But to sum most of it up the Oedipus complex is a psychological theory and is rather disturbing in a way. The theory is that a boy subconciously desires to kill his father and sexually posess his mother. If you've ever heard or read the ancient Greek tragedy 'Oedipus' by Sophocles or heard of the myth, thats where the name comes from, as Oedipus was a mythical King of Thebes, who unknowingly fulfilled a prophecy that told him he would kill his father and bed his mother. The term 'Oedipus Complex' was coined by psychologist Sigmund Freud.
So the argument the artist is talking about is that although Katara has a similar hairstyle to Ursa, the Oedipal complex wouldn't really apply to Zutara as its likely that the hair was just a coincidence and she never treated Zuko in any other way than an enemy and later a friend, where as with Aang she mothered him and treated him like a son which progressed to romantic feelings on Aang's part...Creating a sort of Oedipal effect in that he has romantic feelings toward a mother figure...
It can be pretty complicated if you're notfamiliar with it, but I hope that helped in some way XD
