Description
This bloody wind is going to be the death of me Nadia thought grudgingly to herself, slipping on a beanie and pulling on a jacket. It was Spring in the Urals but she still found herself chilly, even at mid day.
She had received a text from her older brother to meet her behind Volos Manor, at their private stable, Sverdlovsk Yard.
“I swear, if he’s bringing more horses like Charon to our little slice of peace, I’ll kill him,” she grumbled to herself, stepping out into the back courtyard, taking a moment to breathe in the fresh air.
Sverdlovsk Yard was a smaller, courtyard-like stable where Hunter kept some of his personal horses and those who had been retired. It was technically its own entity but, as of right now, none of its residents were competitors.
Maybe that would change?
Not seeing her brother in the main yard, she ducked beyond the large stone gates and made her way down the path that would loop her around towards Cypress Hill proper. A shrill whinny, however, captured her attention, and she paused, raising one hand to shield her eyes to spot three figures approaching her.
“Myshka,” Hunter greeted, casually holding out two sets of reins to the young 25 year old, a smirk gracing his lips.
Nadia barely acknowledged him, staring at the two gorgeous mares adorned in Sverdlovsk blankets.
“These are two new Zlesdins that I believe could help us get the Yard into the competitive field,” he began his explanation, watching as the delicate seal bay reach out to nudge his sister’s shoulder, looking for apples or some sort of treats.
“That one there is SY Devana and the pretty chestnut is SV —“ he was cut off as the fiery red filly nipped at his jacket, also looking for treats.
The Volos siblings both chuckled, Nadia one of the very few who got to see her big brother act like a normal human being.
“In any case, I expect you to get them settled. We’ll figure out disciplines and assigned riders later but they’re yours... Happy birthday, myshka.” He leaned over to kiss her forehead before nodding his head in farewell.
“I’ll expect a progress report by the end of the week,” he called out, ignoring her sudden question about the chestnut’s name. “That’s up to you, Nadia!”
Nadia shook her head in stunned awe, watching him walk away before she let out a whoop, wrapping her arms around both mares as they both focused on her for treats.
“Alright, alright. Let’s go, you monsters...”
