Description That hint of prism in her eyes
makes her appear to be so wise
The playful curvature of her lip
On her cheeks can dance a quip

Second attempt at colored portraits and must say this is a lot harder then i expected.
Think i need to get more creative with the colors to make it look better. Any tips ?

A5 vellum with F-C polychromos colorpencils.

Feel free to comment/critique or give tips. I would really appreciate it

YOu did really good on this, the mouth is amazing, the only tip, maybe you coould do some more shading, to make it look real. Just a little bit more, so she gets more 3d

I'd work on adding more shading to the sides of her nose, under her chin, and to the edge of her face on her left side. That would help making things more 3D and less flat toned.

You know what Trixxx, for someone who says he finds this really difficult, you're doing VERY well! This drawing does nรณt look like it is only your second try with colored pencils! That bit of hair on the top left in the drawing with the highlights is just super!!!

Tell me, do your colored pencils work well with a kneaded eraser? And are your pencils oil based?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

trixxx In reply to LilaeaBluecoat [2011-10-12 18:15:43 +0000 UTC]

Heh thanks.
Well the hair is a bit of luck i think Had 10 colors in there wich didn't work till i found the overlaying one that made it look realer.
Most problems i'm having is how to do shading in color as most faces look pink and brownish but actually use 30 colors and i got to find out how to mix them into a colorcombo that looks 'real'.

Still think i messed up the proportions/shape of her face because i was to much focused on getting a skintone.

To be honest i didn't use the eraser except for the highlights in the hair a bit and that seemed to be ok. I tried using it on the last drawing but it didn't work as well as on graphite so this is more permanent i think.
I'm using faber castell polychromos wich are indeed oil based (just had to look it up tho didn't know there was a difference) Not sure whats the advantage but i do know they are way nicer to work with then those bruynzeel colorpencils

Thanks again for looking and commenting

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

LilaeaBluecoat In reply to trixxx [2011-10-13 18:21:24 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure they're nicer than Bruynzeels! The oil-based bit makes for for smoothness, I believe. That might be why the eraser doesn't work well on them.

I think your shading looks good. And finding out how colors mix is just part of the process, I guess. How many colors did you get? 12? 24?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

trixxx In reply to LilaeaBluecoat [2011-10-13 18:52:09 +0000 UTC]

A ye that might be it

Thanks. Yes i guess thats part of the proces but as u know it always seems to go slow if u want progress quick.
I got a set of 36 colors and a few loose ones that i thought were needed while not being in the set so got 42 colors.
Bit overwhelming at first if ur used to 3 or 4 different pencils

Must say it's pretty fun to try color and think i learn some stuff for the graphite drawings from it too.

Oh I'm certain the experience will benefit your graphite drawings too!
