Description
My dungeons and dragons character Lane! Here is her story
A gift left at the door of a well-off family, like the miracle they wishes for. The couple, unable to conceive wanted to pass their love to a child of their own. Joy and exclamation filled the Sun household. The child, even with its peculiar appearance had received the love and adornment of the new parents. The infant determined female, had beautiful silver hair and light blue eyes that seemed to reflect light. At night a faint glow could be seen in the baby's crib emanating from its inhabitant. Somewhat frightened at first, the noble household determined there was no threat coming from the baby, thus accepting her as a gift from the gods.
As the happy years went by, she had became known in the rest of the village not only for her otherworldly looks, but for the pure kindness and empathy she had. Loved by everyone around, she truly was a blessing to this small, but wealthy village. The village had receive it's income from the diamond quarry that was accidentally fumbled upon 10 to 15 years ago. The sun family who had adopted the bright child had accumulated its wealth primary by ensuring the exportation of the diamonds, making not only them but the whole village prosper.
The adopted girl named Lane loved her adoptive parents very much. Sadly the happy years only lasted until her 10th birthday where she had a strangely vivid nightmare telling her of the horrors that were to come. Trusting her instincts she hid in the secret basement of the estate as soon as she woke up.
Mercenaries lured by the diamonds and the wealth entered the village that day, determined to pillage and steal everything they could there. Leaving no survivors behind, and burning the evidence. Lane who was in the basement could hear the screams and pain of her parents as they got stabbed and raped. Blood spilling in between the wood planks, covering Lane's petrified body. She couldn't move, she couldn't help. Even if she could, there's no way she could defend. Keeping her from going insane, the child herd a whisper in the wind “endure it, endure it, a time for redemption will come”. Clinging to the misty voice she waited in the basement as everyone she had ever known was brutally killed. “Go now” she heard as she smelled a strong burning scent. She walked out of the escape door connected to the basement and assessed the damages: everything was gone and burnt, the perpetrators nowhere to be seen.
Alone, defeated and traumatized, she made her way to the closest village neighboring the desecrated one. She walked 3 days, no food and living off dirty water, she finally made it there. No one seemed to care about her, this village was clearly less blessed than hers. She wasn't the only begging child on the street. She eventually lost consciousness in the streets and saved by a wandering adventurer. He fed her and cleaned her and listened to her story. He told her she could find refuge in the church in town, showing his religious crest. 'Tell them I sent you and they will take care of you, young child, you have been blessed by the gods and you are bearing their message. Never forget that there is kindness in the world. I must go now, there is much evil to purge, sorry I couldn't make it in time to save your village, but evil will pay, it always does.”
Lane proceeded to head to the church as indicated by the adventurer. It was the beginning of a new life. Looking at the symbol of the church, a sunrise made of gems, she understood the meaning of it. There is always a new morning, a new beginning as long as you survive. It was how she began her journey.
