The United States collapsed after the Death Stranding event (a phenomenon which resulted in the world of the living and the world of the dead colliding) and in its place grew the United Cities of America, a number of rebuilt cities connected by the Chiral Network.

After the Cities were reunified by Sam Bridges the new president announced plans to slowly expand into Mexico and Canada.
