I wasn't through the first page of your gallery before I thought to myself, I bet this guy lives where grew up. It seemed to be the epicenter of the gallery as a whole, and there are a few "winks" for someone who knows the town. The house that I grew up in is south by southwest from here.
As someone who lived in Seattle, here, and Spokane before leaving the state, I'm enjoying your gallery a lot — especially the Tumwater Canyon shots (I had a weird dream about Tumwater Canyon before I woke up this morning) and the old dam. I appreciate that your shots near the old dam exclude The Alps, that the shots around Leavenworth exclude Leavenworth, and that your shots on the Palouse exclude the glorified state college whose name I prefer not to speak. Nice shots of the U Dub campus, too.
(I'm haven't yet gone back to reach the beginning of your gallery, and I hope I don't eat my words when I stumble across a gang of Cougs barcrawling Worthleavin' during one of its many Christmas Tree Lighting festivals.)
I have seen a lot of pictures of the places that you depict here, and I honestly think that you have a perspective that is subtly distinct from the average take from the typical shots one often (and always) sees of the "staples" (the Drumheller shot, Liberty Bell, Dry Falls, et cetera). It also somewhat refreshing to go through an album of Washington shots that's not dominated by giant volcanoes. I have nothing against them, and have clmbed most of them more than once, but how do we go about taking a shot that gives us a fresh perspective on Rainier?
A lot of this work approaches John Marshall quality, I think, while avoiding the clichés into which his subjcts have fallen, and giving us a new angle on the places that make our state the most beautiful in the Union.
This is great stuff, and I look forward to seeing more.
M.

That would be the Malaga/Colockum area...or there abouts. I grew up on this side of the river.
I usually try and avoid people, powerlines and cars in my shots...thought it is not always easy. And sometimes they need to be edited out. It is a very diverse state for a photographer. There are so many different ecosystems and climates. Most have no idea there is a high desert that covers almost half of the state. Other than a few historic buildings, most of the structures I like to shoot are long abandoned and various states of decay. (I’m going to take the high ground and ignore you provocative and misplaced comment WSU...it’s what any graduate of the place would do.)
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. I really appreciate you taking the time and making the effort. Bob

My home is dead center and just where the town meets the foothills. I live at 800 ft above sea level and that ridge in the back is 5,200 feet and just 5 miles west.

I did have a good evening. The pork chops were perfect and the asparagus fresh.

Not my favorite either...but I braised it in mushroom gravy so it was quite good and fork tender.

No, I'm from a family that grow apples instead of raising cattle.

Apple juice, apple sauce, apple cider, apple pie, baked apple, candied apple, apple jack (brandy), minced meat filling, pickled (crab) apples, apple (savory) pudding, and lots of raw apples. 200 acres of the things.

No, no...I left the orchard a long time ago. But I worked summers form age 13 through college in the orchard. That was plenty. Now I'm a social worker.

E-burg is behind us or in front of us?

The topmost ridge is Mission Ridge (still has snow in the middle of July). E-berg is on the other side of the ridge and about a quarter mile south (left) if this view.

That's where I live! …mountains on one side and a desert on the other….And in between a big river.
