This little scene happens while the events in chapter 14 and 15 are going on, and after Luke, Nick, and Espella sneak into the courthouse...

"GAH!!!" Luke exclaimed, as he backed up after passing the cell next to Jean's.

The three of them - Luke, Phoenix, and Espella had just entered the basement cells through the secret passage way and talked to Jean for a minute, when something caught Luke's eye
and spooked him.

"What is it Luke?" Nick asked curiously, gazing at the shaking frightened boy.

"L-Look for yourselves!" he stuttered as he pointed to the cell before them. "Th-There's a g-g-ghost in there!!!"

Nick quickly turned his attention to where the boy pointed, and sure enough, there was a shadowy figure standing there in the cell. But a few minutes of staring at it revealed the figure to be...

"Luke, it's just a statue."

The professor's apprentice looked to the man with slight disbelief and confusion. "What?!"

"Here, I'll prove it to you." Nick marched right into the cell, despite Luke's shouts for him to stop.

"Wait! Mr. Wright! It might hurt you!" Luke warned him as the attorney continued and grabbed a torch for light. The man then brought it closer to the figure and it turned out that he was right
all along. "Huh...?"

"It's a statue of a young woman..." Nick observed as he took in the details of the stone. "Did a witch get to her too?"

Luke saw that it was now safe and came closer too. He bent down next to her and looked at the flower arrangement at her feet. "Looks like someone left some flowers for her also...Hey Espella,
do you know why this is here...?" - he trailed off as he turned to her and noticed that she looked a little sad - "What's wrong Espella?"

She was quiet in sadness for a moment, and Nick picked up on this as he asked, "Did you know this girl...?"

"Yes..." Espella answered softly as she took a few steps closer to them. "This is Karena Edwards. She was a very close friend of mine...A witch that has already payed for her crimes did this to her..."

Nick was about to ask a few more questions about what happened, when Luke suddenly spoke up and said, "Hey! Now that I think of it, I've seen her somewhere before!"

"Where?" the other two asked curiously.

Luke had to think for a moment, before he remembered. "Up in the Inquisitor's Hall! Her picture is tacked up on the board behind Inquisitor Barnham's desk!"

"What relation does she have to Inquisitor Barnham?" Nick pondered aloud.

"Oh, the two of them were engaged to be married." Espella answered.

The two males gasped in shock at what she said. "The Inquisitor had a sweetheart?!" Luke asked while Nick paused for a moment in thought.

"It's hard to believe that such a rigid man would fall in love..."

"It did happen." Espella told them with determination before she told them the couple's story in a nutshell.

Once she was done, Nick's confusion was cleared from earlier when he had confronted the Inquisitor and demanded that he bring Maya back. '"I have been where you are now..."' he thought as
he recalled what the man had said to him. 'So that's what he meant...'

Meanwhile Luke became determined as he promised, "Any friend of Espella's is mine, and once we find a way to turn the Professor back, we'll return Karena back to normal too!"

Been sitting on this one for a long while, and I'm so glad I finally got to submit it without spoiling you all!!! This is probably going to be the first extra that goes with my fanfic; The Reason I Protect , once I figure out a title for it... Anyway, until that happens, you'll probably have to wait for it, but this one's here, because the picture came with it! I decided to make it sort of like the endings of the Professor Layton series, because I love them so much, and I wanted to try my hand at drawing in the PL style! So...hope you like it and look forward to some more Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright stuff, because there are three more things on their way this month!
