I really like the combination of soft water colours with black ink you used here.
In my opinion, it's a great idea to picture the jellyfish by drawing the black background and leaving them white with only a few spots and lines of ink.
To me the jellyfish look like floating upwards. Maybe the little black cat-like creature thinks about them. They could emerge from its head, though. On the other hand, the edge of the black area directly below the date somehow reminds me of a high throne-like chair. A throne with jellyfish and a black cat? I like that such pictures pop up in my mind. It means that I can think about your beautiful painting for a while.
It was a good idea to include these two details about the cat and the watercolours in the picture. They are a little small on the complete drawing. And I think they're important. So good that we can look at them more closely.

What is Inktober all about, by the way? Is it some kind of contest or challenge? I saw lots of pictures named Inktober here on dA but I can't get rid of the feeling that I missed something.

So. Inktober, yeah...it's also called drawtober...so it is something like in the month of October you've to make your artworks outta ink, of all types- pen,marker,sketch pen etc.
And it has ended!
So you've missed a lot!

Wow, I'm really happy that you like my critique that much. But it's such a beautiful painting that I could write this critique for it.
Oh, Inktober sounds fun and I missed everything. But next year I can participate. What I still don't understand is:
Was there an official announcement by HQ, like a journal or so? Do you have to sign up for it somewhere? Are there certain tasks you can fulfill, like draw something with jellyfish on 17th? Do you have to draw every day or on specific days in October?

It's just a community sort of thing and it doesn't need any sort of announcement!
And no, there are no specific tasks for everyday sketches!
The jellyfishes one was just a random thought that resulted to be very nice!
