Several illustrations need an updaye. This only needs a hump on the back.

the deinocheirus has a great thing of camouflage in this pic, I thought it was just another tree for sure!

This is very clever. Y'know, hiding the Deinocheirus' head and all...

Very clever way to depict Deinocheirus! At first I thought it was Gigantoraptor but then I red the artist's comment. Great work!

Thanks! I tried to make the scene so that the viewer doesn't first even realize what he/she is looking at. I personally feel good about the shadows, but maybe the Deinocheirus is still too visible. Maybe I should do similar "viewer's eye-tracking" experiments, that James Gurney has done on his works
Gigantoraptor would have suited as well, but I had this Deinocheirus-obsession at the time. Plus, it would have been almost necessary for me to view Gigantoraptor's head.
For Deinocheirus it was easier, as there's still the atmosphere of enigma surrounding its appereance.

Deinocheirus is just fine. It's not too visible yet not comletely covered by the shadows. It tooks a few seconds before the viewer notices that there is an animal in the background. Atleast this is what happened to me.

You're right that Deinocheirus is better choice than Gigantoraptor. At first I thought it was Gigantoraptor because of the other oviraptorosaurid but then I noticed the giant forearms and red your comment below the painting.

One again, it's great!

I first thought I should leave the Deinocheirus unmentioned in the Artist's Comment and see how many people notice it.
I have this urge to include something completely inappropriate in some big illustration or painting, and see if anyone notices it!

You should had done that. It would be interesting to see how people would interpret the animal in the background. I guess most would have recognize it as Deinocheirus because of the fact you left the head out of the painting which suggest that there is a good reason to do this. Also it's clear that you want the viewer to notice it's giant forearms.

Anyway, your work reminds me of a relatively old painting (I guess some 20 years old if not more) of T. rex hidding in the shadows of the trees while two or three young Edmontosaurus are standing right to its legs. Too bad I don't remember the name of the artist who painted this artwork.

You know what? I had that exact painting in my head when doing this. I think I saw it in National Geographic at the time, and it was made by John Gurche.

I really like the ambiance you've captured here. I can feel what it would be like to be there.
