Reminds me a lot of the concept art for Panzer Dragoon Saga, colors and the overall direction. This is awesome.

I used ArcSoft PhotoStudio 5 tocolour this piece.
I used the airbrush, blur, and darken/lighting tools only.

The bubbles are nice, they really give her motion as she falls through the murky water. I also like that chasm far below, the the only lght coming from those red lights on the pipes, as well as the illumination on Samus' suit.
Maridia was always my favourite area of Super Metroid. It had that lonely, forgotten feel to it, a feel captured by the dull purples and blues you've used.

I originally painted the bubbles but didnt like how they looked so I left the original scetches and painted around them instead. Im glad that you enjoy the colors as I went from memory rather than refrance, I was really going for the unknown dark depths feel and it seems to have worked.
Maridia was indeed a really well put together section of the game in my eyes bringing more to the isolation of the Metroid atmosphere rather than taking away from the original formula.

You like the bubbles? nice! I sorta wanted to make them more refined to go with the rest of the picture but leaving them felt like a good idea at the time, I'm glad someone likes that. I really wanted to have an excuse to use a lot of purple and Maridia is the perfect choice. Those creatures behind Samus are little floaty things that inflate an air sack to rise in the water, you can use them as a way to get around with the grapple beam. Yeah fire up the ol' SNES good hunting
