Description I sketched out this idea nearly a year ago, just after Halloween. I figured since the holiday is right around the corner, I'd go ahead and actually paint this. The original is 20x30 Acrylic on Illustration Board; Featuring that infamous Headless Horseman from Washington Irving's classic short story, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"

My brother, SIL and nephew actually live just outside Sleepy Hollow, New York -where this tale is set. I was inspired to read this story and sketch ideas from it after exploring a creepy old graveyard during one of my visits to the area... in the middle of the night... in the dead of winter. Incidentally, if you're ever in Tarrytown; eat at The Headless Horsemen's cafe. Good food.

I have the original, as well as prints in several sizes available for sale over on etsy:[link]

Here is my original sketch:

That looks kind of amazing. I wouldn't be able to sleep with something like that in my room, especially living where you do! (Of course, I've always had a hugely irrational fear of the Headless Horseman...)

I don't live anywhere remotely near Sleepy Hollow personally; my brother and his family do. I've actually been living in Southern California for years now, though I'm from New York originally. I still have a lot of family back there that I visit all the time.
Thanks for your comments. It's always a pleasure to read them.

Oh, that makes sense. Do you like living in SoCal? I know it's a nice place to visit, but what's it like to live there?
Aw, thank you! I try.

Well, nothing beats the weather, that's for sure. I like it here a lot.

did you yellow up the moon?

Not on the original... I had a hard time taking a good photo of the painting for web viewing and prints... Kept having issues with glare where the paint was applied more thickly than others, and with the moon looking too overexposed.

So then I tried scanning it in sections, but all these little dust highlights kept showing up in the scans, even when I cleaned both the art and the scanning bed. I ended up taking two different photos and photoshopping them together... one of the art with no visible glare, and another where the painting was way too dark but the moon looked okay. I also had to take the photos at an angle to avoid glare then fix them with the distort/scale/perspective tools. I didn't realize how yellow the moon looked until I printed out a hard copy. Not sure how I like it... this version you're looking at here is also a lot more, 'blue' than the original - which is more of a blue/green overall... and a lot of detail is also lost on the pumpkin here. Bleh.

Hey, if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears. I had the same problem with 'Fish at Claw Machine' - the print and web image don't look nearly as good as the original.
