A Small Catch

You know how they say, “There’s plenty of fish in the ocean.”? Well let me tell ya:

In this metaphor, So many others had NO problem catching fish growing up. Often they didn’t even care for each catch as it came so easily for them. If one fish didn’t suit what they wanted at the moment, they would go right back to look for something better as they were so good at luring them in. Meanwhile, I can’t even get a single bite no matter what i tried.

Seeing how easy it was for others, there was plenty of frustration and disappointment but I kept at it. I would practice different techniques and look at how others were doing it so effortlessly but after 28 years of nothing, it was hard not to only be disappointed but also grow slightly bitter. I wanted to care for a fish so badly yet not one fish ever came to me. Eventually I concluded that i may not be meant for this fishing game. Clearly I was bad at this.

I found that I could no longer be sad about it as I was hardened at this point. My pride was hurt but I decided to pack my fishing gear and head this boat back towards shore with no desire to fish again. I docked my boat and starting walking across the shore noticing these small tide pools along the way. Then in one of them there was this little fish just calmly floating in place and looking right back at me. I was beyond surprised. Without thinking I dropped down and slowly dipped my hands in the water around the fish. It didn’t even budge as though it was waiting for this moment. I then picked it up and wanted nothing more than to protect and care for this fish to the best of my ability. I would nurture it the best i could and never make this fish feel any less than. For although this was a small catch, It was more than enough than i could have ever asked for.
