Don't worry about competing with me, I just want to hone my skills and I'm very new at tattoo design. : )

My work has improved greatly since I've been on the site because I'm challenged. I've also built my drawing portfolio, and made a little money too.
Had you joined the site before they made the contests blind while they were open? There used to be a lot of "copying" of ideas. That can't happen any more. Everyone has to rely on their own imagination. It's awesome!

I only discovered the site a few weeks ago, so no, I never saw it when the designs were open.

I was wondering, can you still win the contests if there are less than 10 designs on an entry? The site wasn't very clear on that. >_>

If the contest holder likes one of the designs enough to call it a winner, yes. If not he can either restart the contest or get his money back, as long as he gave feedback and ratings during the contest. Sometimes the contest holders don't come back after a contest and the administrative team will choose a winner. I've been waiting for a contest holder to release my money after providing him his line drawing, with a small requested changed. If he hasn't released my money in 7 days it is automatically released to me.
As to your other questions, If you find a good artist hang around the shop, if they don't have a problem with it. Get a piercing or a tattoo, watch, be nice, show them your work. Put any art that can be printed, in a size that is easy to show, in your portfolio, especially anything with a lot of detail and color. I saw a lot of stuff you could use, but be picky and don't put something in your portfolio that you don't think is really good.

You're welcome to contact me if you have any other questions.
Good luck!
Lorri
