If Muzafr is female, shouldn't she be wearing a hijab when reading the Quran? Also, are the carpets really that soft?? the ones I use to pray are not very plushy (probably worn due to the years) love the piece though!!! <3

All that detail you've put in is...is mind-blowing, I could study the details all day and still be amazed.
I have never been to the Dome but I always imagined that it would be hard to find a place of complete quiet in a building as famous as the Dome of the Rock, what with all the tourists. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm only familiar with the outside so there probably are places inside reserved for quiet reflection and prayer.

Thanks a lot!
Imho the Dome of the Rock is actually the most peaceful place in all of al Quds simply because it's actually closed to tourists except for a few hours on certain days. Otherwise it's Muslim-exclusive. B). The perfect place to retire to and pray and relax.

Oh I see. That makes perfect sense, my apologies since I wasn't aware of the building's policy on tourists.
I guess it's nice to have such a monumental site of worship put its worshippers above tourism, there is far too much commercialism these days imo.

Wallah, yeah, it's such a breath of fresh air. It's shocking to see the contrast between the Haram ash-Sharif and other sites in the region, particularly the Western Wall plaza. What most pictures of the site don't show you is a /massive/ parking lot about 100' from the Wall itself, full of dozens of tour buses, and a busy road with insane taxi drivers and more tourists next to that.

I think it's the Western Wall that is one of the more famous tourist/religious sites. Something about it being part of the former Temple of Soloman? I always imagined the wall's vicinity would be incredibly busy.
I can see why tourism pictures might miss out the parking lot though. Something like that doesn't normally entice tourists.

Yeah, I know - I was just comparing that to the other much less busy areas and the experiences. Vibes, per say, of them.

Friday prayers must be awkward for poor Muzafr, always having to be careful not to accidentally poke someone with all those spikes...

Haha, they really are! 'Shoulder to shoulder and heel to heel' doesn't work for her, hehe. She either has to pray way in the front due to her tail, or far enough to the side or back on account of her elbow and head spines, lol!

It's amazing how unique the ground plan is for that temple. On the one exam I had back in the day, everyone was relieved that the prof chose it xD
I would have liked to go see it, but we never went. Not ancient enough I guess, haha. I could imagine the pictures don't do it justice!
If we were allowed in, hm? Never even went to 'Ain Ghazal and we were RIGHT by it, too...
Your girl's so symmetrical!
A very nice picture. Such a peaceful moment.

Thanks so much! And it's actually the oldest standing Islamic shrine! ^^. And yep, it's Muslim-exclusive and closed to tourists like 95% of the time. I was the only one allowed in of all my group since I was the only Muslim, and it was so nice just to retreat there and relax and pray. <3

What is the Dome of the Rock exactly?
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
TwilightSaint In reply to Combak [2013-11-09 02:13:46 +0000 UTC]
Wallah, omg, what isn't it? <3. It's the third holiest shrine in and oldest standing monument of Islam, commemorating the miraculous journey of Prophet Muhammad (saw) from Mecca to Jerusalem to meet the previous prophets and then to Heaven to be directly in the presence of God. The monument of the Dome houses the rock itself from where the Prophet (saw) arose into Heaven. And the Dome itself serves as a symbol of the earliest Islamic ideals of peace with the other religions, reflecting the same ideals of the original builders and earliest dynasties of Islam.
And I could go on and on all day more about it. X). Hope that answers your question!

It's not a mall, department store, restaurant, hospital, gift shop, cemetery, house, office building, pool, gym, natural formation, or rock, just to name a few.
... So to anyone who is not Islamic, just another mosque.

This is just so calming and peaceful. I love it.
The sunlight streaming into the picture puts me in mind of mid morning. It's gentle and not harsh ... and I'm not sure if it's just me, but morning sunlight always has a certain calm gentleness to it that afternoon and evening never seem to have.

It's not quite enough to merit a full critique, but I think you could have made the carpets look more plush if the pile is actually 3 full inches, but otherwise I think it's very well done! The symmetry is very powerful :3

Okay, thanks! I was trying to show it a little with some of the patches, but I'll play with some more techniques to make it look more like she's 'sinking' into it. (Most amazing carpet ever!) Thanks again!

I imagine some floofiness overlapping her rather terrifying feet would do the trick :3
And you're so lucky to have visited the dome of the rock! For some reason I thought it was a Jewish monument at the moment, although if I remember correctly many religious have laid claim to it over the centuries
